any one else interested in this stuff .. all moody electronica, sweeping grandeur a la Propaganda (ZTT) .. lovely.
what i didn't expect was to see MArtin Gores involvement (cowriter/guitars) on the eps standout track 'cloud 9'. all very lowkey. but the bloody fantastic is you remember the majesty of Dr Mabuse ..

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 7 October 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm really wary of all the ex-OMDers' stuff (yes, even mclusky's solo work as, umm, OMD) ... and for a long time i've thought paul humphreys was a bit of a chump, based on some half-remembered tale about a dispute he had with mclusky.

oh: and because of the listening pool. yes, it's all coming back to me now. jesus CHRIST, the listening pool were shit.

but i'm really interesting in this onetwo thing, and i want to like it. reassure me: it's not like TLP, is it?

OMD meets Propaganda meets Depeche Mode?

Hmm.. Sounds interesting. Must check ;)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 7 October 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

never heard TLP

.. but this onetwo is nice. i was never an OMD kinda person .. i am from the Propaganda interest factor .. and in that respect i am well chuffed ..

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 7 October 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

heh, and i know sod all about propaganda (i know, i know: gaping hole in synthpop knowledge there), so ... you've convinced me, mark. i shall investigate.

don't be tempted to go looking for listening pool stuff, though. just don't.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 7 October 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

cant buy it in shops. sales are all via ebay. or blatant blagging.

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 7 October 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW .. propaganda .. Dr Mabuse full 12" version.

easily found in the usual places i would think. by far one of the best records. ever.

that is unless it sounds like the listening pool.

actually im surprised that no-one has mentioned the fact that
claudia and suzanne shared a stage for the first time in 20 years
last week in london. anyone else hear this? at a onetwo gig by all accnts. this makes the chances of a full reform at the TREVOR HORN gig :

http://www.princes-trust.org.uk/Main%20Site%20v2/headline%20news/trevor%20horn.asp

ever more likely.

piscesboy, Thursday, 7 October 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for the propaganda tip, mark, that's much appreciated. i shall check it out.

i don't imagine it sounds anything like the listening pool. i don't think anything in the *world* sounds that bad.

x-post: bizarre wee buying-from-ebay thing they've got going on there; although i see there's also some sound clips (maybe even full versions? i can but hope) on the site. i shall listen tonight ... oh, shit, no i won't, i'm out ... and tomorrow ... and saturday ... bollocks. i shall listen on sunday, then.

thanks again.

wasn't aware re Claudi/Suzanne thing .. wow .. now thats fine.

i never picked up the second Propaganda album as it just didn't feel/sound right. should i revisit this negativity and get the much maligned Second album (not incl the remix lp .. )

'duel' and 'p-machinery' are absolute 80s classics by propaganda, especially the 12" mix of the latter.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 7 October 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

well.. I was at that gig last week, and mmm.. Claudia sounded spankingly good. She did all the songs you'd expect, plus "Cloud 9" (the Gore-song) and other newies. Susanne came on and did the spoken bits on "P-Machinery" and "Dr Mabuse", standing next to Claudia clutching her microphone and smiling awkwardly, looking like a saucy blonde finance consultant who'd just come from work.

The OMD songs sounded even better. I don't think it's my imagination, and certainly no ill-founded nostalgia trip, but some of them sounded as relevant now as ever - esp Messages, Souvenir and Electricity. CB shared vocals with Paul on most of the OMD songs - an impressive feat. I never thought I'd hear CB sing "Our one source of energy.." etc.

What's more, they really seemed up for it. And not in a 'wow, this could be my pension fund' way either - it was a genuine excitement at playing new and old songs live again.

darren (darren), Thursday, 7 October 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

wow darren ..ta for this rundown. that sounds fine. the point re the "pension fund futures" vs the fact that it sounds fresh are exactly what i was thinking when i was listening to the new ep on my way to work.. and after all the harshness re Claudia's vocal abilities in the past i have to say on the tracks she fronts she sounds pretty fucking good.
will this get more profile - or is it going to be kept as a little secret project for them to have fun with ? guess only time will tell ..

mark e (mark e), Friday, 8 October 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

well done darren. i was beginning to think my source made it up.
