...the one that's really incredibly good, on michael mayer's fabric mix - what else should i know about him? he has an album coming out soon, it seems. it looks like he's remixed femi kuti, anybody heard that? i liked his "utopia" too (well, in some ways, maybe more 'admired' than liked - the programming was super-intricate).

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 7 October 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the album going to be called?

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 7 October 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

That reminds me:
Go Ahead and Blaspheme here...it's all been approved.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 October 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, mindinrewind, i can't really call you out that thread i guess but you're really exceptionally wrong. i've had that mayer mix in my car for the whole week and i'm becoming more convinced of its untouchable greatness every trip i take.

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 7 October 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's greatness becomes even more apprent in a car.

My Dinner With Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 7 October 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The jackson "Utopia" single was incredible: that song "radio caca" kicks so much ass it's ridiculous . . . I'm happy people are giving him props as the ep came out so long ago and didn't get much notice outside of France

Drew Daniel, Thursday, 7 October 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesnt kick as much ass as "Confession (nervous Gender)"!!!

er, sorry but it's true.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 7 October 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

He's so perfectionist he constantly postpones the release of his album on Barclay, a subdivision of Universal. He's also doing tracks with Pepe Bradock, they're called Panash and one of their tunes was featured on Smagghe's Suck My Deck mix. He recently spinned "Le Petit train" by les Rita Mitsouko, a song from '89 that sounds from '04 (or maybe even more than that) and which I strongly recommend.

Etienne (Etienne), Friday, 8 October 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I'm hearing that M83 remix right now and I much prefer it over the original, so I already like this guy a lot!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
please someone tell me there is more concrete info about this guy doing something new soon... though i did hear his air remix which is the first time i've been disappointed by him. very eager about the album.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i quite like the "alpha beta gaga" remix.

m. (mitchlnw), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't decided if i like it yet

(i guess we have all the bases covered here!)

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 November 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

his full name is Jackson Fourgeaud. i just thought that should appear on this thread, somewhere.

m. (mitchlnw), Saturday, 13 November 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

has anything come out of that 'handicap' oizo collab yet? the only thing google returns are french concert listings..

m. (mitchlnw), Saturday, 13 November 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i think he should remix annie's "heartbeat".

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 14 November 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh.. that would be very nice... or remute... or ada... hmmm... one can dream...

jackson is prob gonna sign to warp

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 February 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

where'd that info come from? i have a deep and intense yearning for something new from this guy. emphasis on new.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 21 February 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

er....an "inside" source

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 February 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

Warp are pleased to announce the signing of Jackson, the hotly-tipped 25-year-old Parisian producer whose extraordinary music is steadily getting recognition in the electronic world. Best known for 2003's 'Utopia' single and his remix of M83's 'Run Into Flowers', Jackson Fourgeaud is one of the most exciting and original new electronic talents to emerge from France since Daft Punk. He describes his wild, romantic electronic pop music as "antique futurism", a "style orgy" that sounds like nothing you've heard before. The debut album 'Smash' is released in the Autumn, preceded by a single in the summer. Jackson plays at the Vasarely Festival on June 4th in Aix en Provence.

tricky (disco stu), Monday, 16 May 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Warp has been signing some random artists lately, wtf!

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 16 May 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

That's a great signing for Warp (Maximo Park?) IMO.

Did anyone listen to his Breezeblock session on the R1 site? I thought it was pretty good! I could be more descriptive, sorry.

fandango (fandango), Monday, 16 May 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

impossible to find on slsk = DUD, sorry. good for warp, though.

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 16 May 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

well he's on that michael mayer mix right? so just type "jackson michael" into slsk and you should be fine!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 16 May 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

well i did shell out for the metal box. that track is incredible. not being able to find any OTHER jackson tracks on slsk = DUD. although it sounds like he really hasn't released much else?

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

I don't have slsk, but surely if you search for Jackson in conjunction with a track name (such as 'Radio Caca') you can find stuff?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

Nope, SLSK's search function is really fucked.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

YES, I NEED HELP

A FRIEND PLAYED ME A CD IN HIS CAR ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO, A CD SINGLE SORT OF THING OF M83; RUN INTO FLOWERS I BELIEVE. IT HAD SEVERAL REMIX VERSIONS ON IT, AND ONE OF THEM WAS THIS SUPER BASS HEAVY ONE THAT WAS THE BEST SONG I EVER HEARD EVER. LIKE SUPER DUPER BASS, OVERWHELMING EVERYTHING. WAS THIS IT? IF NOT, WHAT WAS IT?

Tell us more. I would like a second french touch!

Or just talk about Jackson, in any incarnation.

Baby BobO (nordicskilla), Friday, 1 July 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

whats happening abotu his warp album? whens it coming out?

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 1 July 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Fall, if nothing's changed. It's called Jackson & His Computer Band- Smash.

Telephonething, Friday, 1 July 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
"A new 3 track single Rock On from 25yr old French electronic superstar and new Warp signing Jackson will be released on 22nd August; with his hotly-anticipated debut album Smash due on 19th September featuring contributions from Mr Oizo, Mike Ladd and Jackson's mum."

from warp's july newsletter

Fetchboy (Felcher), Thursday, 21 July 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

i actually think that WARP's new signings (including Jackson) are quite refreshingh.
It makes me excited about warp again, which I had not been for a while

Arnault (arc73hk), Friday, 22 July 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

they've got a track ("rock on") up on http://music.for-robots.com/ now, so i'm guessing there are promo's afloat - leeeeeeek pleeeeez

jermaine (jnoble), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

thank you ilm and jackson for giving me a reason to leave my bed

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

I like the Panash Unicorn/Cheval thing.

Also Discogs lists 12"s by Jackson and His Computer Band coming out on some French label in the late 90s.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

"It makes me excited about warp again, which I had not been for a while"

I know, most of my favorite releases this year so far are either from Warp or Subpop. I feel like im stuck in the 90s or something.

Fetchboy (Felcher), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

i dont find this album particularly interesting. for some reason i was kindsa psyched about it tho. why is it not just prefuse with slightly different influences?

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

sounds much closer to akufen than prefuse, to me.

have you heard the whole album?

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

i think the 12' is pretty disappointing with the a side being pretty much unlistenable for me.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

on first listen Rock On was kind of boring, yeah

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

yeah, but on the upside im now dling a bunch of jackson stuff i didn't know about that i like. im particularly enjoying "wonderlove".

Fetchboy (Felcher), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

"Rock On" is cut up like Afuken, Prefuse et al sure... but where's the tension between the surface-level distracting fuckery and the real, underlying momentum here? Nothing in this really pulls me in, or feels danceable. Might it work better pitched up a few BPM's?

(YSI some of that stuff? ;O) )

fandango (fandango), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

i dont find this album particularly interesting. for some reason i was kindsa psyched about it tho.

me too, am I about to be disappointed?

I hadn't realised this thread had stalled so hard. Were you dissapointed Adam?

I previewed most of this off bleep.com... It really is kind of leaden & laboured isn't it?

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 29 September 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

It is, and his live show is even worse.
