initial rock hybridization

Who knows when another popular music form was first attached to rock? Or I mean what was the first widely acknowledged rock & roll genre that was both rock and other than rock? Folk rock? Blues rock? Pysch rock? When and what was it, anyone? Help a brother out.

Rock itself was always a hybrid, and not just in the sense of "mixing country and blues" or whatever. Cat Anderson played on Wynonie Harris records, and Elvis loved and emulated Dean Martin.
