'Yeah' is a word.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 11 October 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Does "Kiss" have a chorus!?!? Of course it does. It starts "You don't have to be rich...". It's repeated more or less unchanged after each verse, and is a separate melodic part of the song (though, granted, slightly more similar to the verse than many other songs).

Thus, I claim no. 79 for

Kenickie - "In Your Car"

OleM (OleM), Monday, 11 October 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

70. Robert Parker (name?), "Barefootin'"

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 11 October 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"You don't have to be rich...".

maybe, i always thought of it more as a bridge - but that would mean the only thing approaching a chorus would be just the "KISS!" bit - which fits this thread but i'm sure is not technically correct

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 11 October 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 11 October 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I see your point steve, sometimes hard to analyse it correctly -- or, more correctly, "correctly", as it's not exactly scientifically well-defined what's what.

I started doubting my own suggestion as well, due to the "I'm in heaven" bit that follows all the "yeah"s -- it seems to constitute some sort of post-chorus, or something. (This is a structural trick of which ABBA were masters, btw -- consider e.g. "SOS" or "Mamma Mia", in which the undisputed "main" choruses, the bits that are most catchy, and where the title words occur, are followed by another separate section before returning to the next verse or whatnot.)

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

hint: a chorus in a pop song is 8 bars long, if there is more than one word in that 8 bars it isn't a one word chorus.

knit, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

YEAH does not count. The chorus includes a few "hey"s, which is prety much the equivalent of a "yeah." So if you count "yeah" as a word, "hey" is also a word, making it a two word chorus.
