Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love - Classic or CLASSIC??

Man, I love this record. Amazing how it still holds up.

A song on the new Fucking AM album reminds me of Too Fast-era Crue, which inspired me to priase this record here on ILM. They really never sounded like this again. The production, the vocals, even the writing - gives me the same feeling Ramones Leave Home does. Beats the first NY Dolls record by more than a nose, IMHO.

Let's fight!

CLASSIC.
Shout at the Devil as well.
I think Theater of Pain is where they start to lose the plot, but they still had some good singles after that.

(I also have a soft spot for Dr. Feelgood as it was the first one I heard. I think Motley Crue were my first favorite "current" band at age 9. Them and Guns N Roses. I still own everything up to Decade of Decadence on cassette, and my "Appetite" cassette for that matter. I also liked Skid Row, Poison and Warrant!)

My g/f LOVES this record and especially the title track. classic, if you can overlook Vince's still slightly unconfident vocals.

Oh, I LOVE his vocals on this record!! Tell me what's unconfident about the end of "Come on and Dance!!!"

I sorta knew some of Skid Row when I was little - My mom was friends with Dave The Snake Sabo's wife and I'd see them once in a while (all but Sebastian, who I never met) - they were nice folks

Plus, whatever may have happened to them along the way, remember that the Crue got signed the old fashioned, punk rock way - by playing like crazy and SELF RELEASING their first single. Dare you to hate on that!

"Live Wire" is the crowning achievement of young Motley Crue ("Wild Side" being the same for older, jaded Crue). Classic, no doubt.

Rog, I think you can drop the defensive schtick. Early Crue is much loved by many.

Man, postmodernism just confuses the heck outta me.

I used to be with it. Then they changed what 'it' was...

I'll always pick Shout at the Devil over this record (simply better tunes), but Roger's right in all other respects -- the Crue were never this raw again (if you can't hear the majesty of "Live Wire." you've got dung in your ears). There is something endearingly amateurish/unpolished about the whole shebang.

Theatre of Pain was by all accounts (including the band's) a complete abortion. Girls, Girls,Girls had its moments. Dr.Feelgood restored the whallop (thanks to Bob Rock's production), but it's Shout at the Devil that remains their finest hour.

Motley Crue: Klassik or Dude!
