I saw the thing on Pitchfork and NME, but I have not been able to find an official site talking about the reissues, or what new material is going to be on them. Can anyone give me more info, or direct me somewhere where I can find more info?

I found some fucking information, finally. This information is from Phil Chevron, reposted at http://www.pogues.tk. I've heard most of these bonus tracks before, and I gotta say, they're great. A lot of them are traditional songs done in a way that makes them sound like 100% Pogues originals. So get them!

"The Pogues albums will be rerelased this autumn. "Rum Sodomy & The Lash", "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" and the American release of "Red Roses For Me" will be relesed with the tracks in the original vinyl order. The original bonus tracks will be after the album. Live B-sides and 12" mixes has been excluded. It seems like the Jem Finer songs "Sound Of The City Night" and "Who Said Romance Is Dead" has been left out. Anyway this seems to be the highlight of the year except for the Pogues reunion.
The list of new bonus tracks are the following.

RED ROSES FOR ME:
The Leaving Of Liverpool
Muirshin Durkin
Repeal Of The Licensing Laws
And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda ( b side of "Dark Streets of London")
Whiskey You're The Devil
The Wild Rover

RUM SODOMY AND THE LASH:
A Pistol For Paddy Garcia
London Girl
Rainy Night In Soho (original UK flugelhorn version)
Body Of An American
Planxty Noel Hill
The Parting Glass

IF I SHOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH GOD:
The Battle March Medley
The Irish Rover (with The Dubliners)
Mountain Dew (with The Dubliners)
Shanne Bradley
Sketches Of Spain
South Australia

PEACE AND LOVE:
Star Of The County Down
The Limerick Rake
Train Of Love
Everyman Is A King
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Honky Tonk Women

HELL'S DITCH:
Whiskey In The Jar (with The Dubliners)
Bastard Landlord
Infinity
Curse Of Love
Squid Out Of Water
Jack's Heroes (with The Dubliners)
Rainy Night In Soho (1991 version)

WAITING FOR HERB:
First Day Of Forever
Train Kept Rolling On
Paris St Germain

POGUE MAHONE:
Eyes Of An Angel
Love You Till The End (Stephen Hague mix: previously unreleased)"

I'm interested in this if no one else is. I somehow haven't ever heard a Pogues album in its entirety.

ripping on the Pogues? FFS

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

FFS?

Rockist_Scientist (rockist_scientist), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

for fuck's sake...?

I should be more excited than I am about this. But I guess I already own most of it, apart from one or two songs, as I went through a rabid Pogues-collecting phase in high school.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

You gotta love the Pogues.

Don't think I'll be buying any of these reissues though.

"The Leaving Of Liverpool" and "The Wild Rover" are amongst the very greatest things the Pogues ever recorded.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

So how do The Battle March Medley and South Australia differ from the ones already on IISFFGWG?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The Limerick Rake is fucking great

King Kobra (King Kobra), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

this is cool cuz whenever i put a pogues album on at work its always way quieter than the others and im like "godddamn shit! remaster these already!!!" i wonder why they dont release a full live album from back in the day or the proper falconer demos. did anyone go to the reunion shows??

big chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll probably pick up Rum Sodomy....I just listened to If I Should Fall the other day and realized that album's not as good as I remember it...a few brilliant tracks (Broad Majestic Shannon and of course Fairytale of New York) but lots of boring stuff on there....

I actually like Hell's Ditch better now than I did when it came out...I got the sense lots of fans thought that one sucked...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

me too!

big chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Hell's Ditch is their Led Zeppelin's Presence

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Hell's Ditch was great when I got it. But then, it was my first Pogues album with Shane. Nevertheless, I still think it's strong, even though I have all their albums.

King Kobra (King Kobra), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
I just saw these reissues at Mod Lang. They look nice and obviously have some cool rare photos in them too. About 10 years ago, I would have killed for these, but since then, I've gradually acquired all the rare tracks on MP3.

However, I did notice that my absolute favorite rare Pogues songs did not get an official release here: "NW3". Anyone interested in these reissues should take special effort to search out "NW3" on a file-sharing network; that song is amazing.

Is there anything left in the vaults? I've got those 2004 reissues plus the Pogue Mahone box, not sure I need much more.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Friday, 15 November 2024 00:52 (one year ago)

The 2013 remix of the album is worth checking out, it's a real improvement - but that was in 2013's "30 years" box set with the others already. Bonus material: nothing new.

StanM, Friday, 15 November 2024 07:01 (one year ago)

notes about that 30 years box set though: "Disc 1 (Red Roses For Me) and 4 (Peace And Love) are newly remixed reissues from the original masters, Disc 8 (Live In London) is previously unreleased. The remaining discs are reissues using the original mixes and the 2004 remasters." - and Live in London is with Joe Strummer.
