I might be headed to Toronto...either there or NYC.

Phil Dokes (sunny), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

BOREDOMS!

seahorse genius (seahorse genius), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

in that case, RUSH. even if you don't like them. download "subdivisions" and crank it up when you hit the toronto suburbs.
actually, i'm in toronto now. last two weeks was the best weather we've had all year. just getting cold though.

A little AC/DC perhaps?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

definitely AC/DC.

kraftwerk will go well with a night-time cruise along the gardiner expressway, taking in the big city lights.

astroblaster (astroblaster), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

how about amon tobin "supermodified"?

astroblaster (astroblaster), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Carl Craig - 'Landcruising'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

the makings of a kickass roadtrip mixtape....

I say KLF - Chillout would be go well with these. It's suitably dense, so you'll have plenty to enjoy.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Landcruising is a good shout - you have a nice three-way travel theme going on there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Spike Jones.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck it, how about Judas Priest - Turbo?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

For some reason road trips are a time for me to listen to music I normally don't get into. I think this comes from road trips when I was a kid. It's kind of like how I always get Ginger Ale on an airplane, but never think to drink it any other time. So I have a CD book pre-packed with Road Trip music. For some reason I go on a country kick when I'm on the road, and I also listen to the music my Dad put on when we were on the road.

For the country stuff I usually put on:
- Willie Nelson's Greatest Hits
- Johnny Cash - Folsum Prison and San Quentin

The other stuff:
- The White Album... An album I don't normally think to listen to, but that I love. It seems to fit spring/fall road trips better than Summer/Winter
- Beatles For Sale. Yes you read that right.
- I normally can't stand the Dead, except on road trips. That live Europe 1970something album's alright.
- Frank Zappa - Hot Rats and Wakka Jawaka. And live At the Filmore's great too.

Plus just about any good rock music with a country twinge is great. Beggar's Banquet is great Road Trip music.

Also, these are more "open road" albums. When entering a big city, especially at night, nothing beats Trans-Europe Express. And now that I mention it, it'll be hours before I get it unstuck from my head, which is alright.

That said, I've never tried the Boredoms on a road trip. I'm headed from Memphis to Birmingham (Bammy not England) in a couple hours to see the Pixies tonight. I may have to test drive Super Ae or something.

Some nice new things to pursue here..aside from AC/DC & JP that is. I've been out of college for 12 years and i've JUST started to be able to listen to them again without cringing.

Rut minded roommates can do SO much musical scarring on ya, so kids, if ya can, bring bunkmates with you! (I swear, it was ALL he played, freakin metal...and now that i look back, no Sabbath in there..WTF???)

Think i'm gonna try the Supermodified...sounds good!

Phil Dokes (sunny), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Neu!
Boredoms
Amon Tobin

Now kids, let's not fight on this car trip, you'll have to take turns w/ the player is all. Now who wants to stop for ice cream!!!

Phil Dokes (sunny), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to go to the bathroom!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I think When I Left You might get quite annoying quite quickly, on a road trip.

How about Superpitcher's Here Comes Love and Cliff Martinez's Solaris soundtrack, for those late night neon legs.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

(The latter even contains a track called 'Wear Your Seatbelt' and so might even save your life)

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"more Avalanches" roffle

if you can find the blue cheer twofer with vincebus eruptum and outsideinside, thatd be a good thing.

OR maybe you should get boredoms, os mutantes, and fela kuti, so you can remember all the inhabited continents besides north america, as you (sort of) drive across north america.
