My wife called and heard some Cesaria Evora song in a restaurant and wants me to buy an album on the way home. What should I get? Just start with the best-of?

A very low-pressure telemarketer tried to get me to buy tickets to Cesaria Evora--or at least something at the K*mm*l C*nt*r. I don't usually talk to telemarketers, but since he asked me what music I liked. . . Poor guy.

I bought the first album on Nonesuch, and I liked it at first, but got tired of it and got rid of it. I should probably give her another chance. (The library has a whole bunch of her things.) I understand her recordings since that one are less fadoesque. (I know it wasn't straight fado, but it still resembled that to me, and I just can't quite get into the fado thing.)

i picked up 'best of'. it's completely amazing. i can't stop listening to 'angola'. one of those songs that stops time.

props to gypsy mothra 20 years ago but god this thread blows.

evora's voice is obviously one of the greatest. overall the arrangements have a very traditional sound but the music is obviously very finely played. 'angola' on the other hand. that one is on another level. handclaps. handclaps and no other percussion. guitar and piano. a bunch of other people singing in a big room. and evora. threading that melody in the chorus over and over.

the 'best of' is awesome. Disc one was perfect for a sunny Sunday cooking in my kitchen. Disc two is more varied and festive. Love them both. What a hefty collection of goodness!
