Inspired by an ILE thread. The radio stations here have stopped carrying his show for whatever reason, but it was my late-night music to drive home to for years. He didn't play anything too out but it was always hottest mainstream track off the record, I miss it.

I'm already on record in the Classic camp. It was easy to take JWBP's consistent excellence for granted, but I miss it now that it's disappeared in this market, too. Is the program pricing itself off the airwaves, or what?

Yeah, I wonder. I was on vacation somewhere (Florida?) and I caught some of it, it made me very happy. He seems like he'd be a fun guy to have a few beers with.

The only problem is he did always play the most smoking track off the record, so I would buy a lot of things from the show and nothing would hit as hard as that highlight. Small criticism, though.

I usually enjoyed his self-deprecating digressions into tales of his own run-ins with big-name musicians during his own playing days. And then sometimes his song idents would go something like this: "That was the Art Pepper quintet with the title track from his 1959 album "Smack Up" ... heh heh heh heh heh ... an album that came out during a period when Art was letting it ALL hang out ... heh heh heh."

I wish he was my uncle who I would visit on holidays to hear stories and borrow records.

eight years pass...

what is bob's thing lately with all the slippery-smooth harmonica jazz? harmonica jazz has a real creep vibe imo. don't know why.

i'm just glad he's still alive, i was scared when i clicked on this thread.
