The Alchemist: 1st Infantry.

I just bought this, any thoughts? Some of the big-name rappers sound a bit too relaxed here, and the Alchemist uses too many high-pitched, squeaky sounds, but mostly I like this. The tracks here have this sort of weird, nervous edge that's kinda hard to pin down to. Also, is he rapping himself on the last track? That's a pretty good track, even though the keyboard part sounds like Bon Jovi's "Getaway".

Who are the guest stars?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Nas, Mobb Deep, MOP, B-Real, Dilated Peoples etc. Pretty much everyone his worked with, I guess. No Ghostface though.

Ooh, how's the M.O.P. track?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It sounds quite good, kinda like something out of "Warriorz", but it's a short track (less than 3 minutes) and they share it with someone called "Stat Quo", so they really don't rap for long there.

The B-Real track sounds the best after the first listen. It has a rather monotonous beat which fits perfectly with his flow.

Stat Quo is from ATL he's the new guy Em and Dre are all over. Or at least the buzz has been building for awhile. Last fall some friends i knew were all about how he was the future.

Well, he doesn't sound particularly impressive on that track, though he has a nice, phlegmatic flow.

I love Stat Quo's stuff I've heard so far on Mixtapes (some freestyles on Green Lantern's Countdown to Armageddon 2 & 3).....This Alchemist album is pretty cool.

I really actually like the last song the "Two Different Worlds" with some indie rapper dude talking about how he grew up in suburbia with everything and Al talking about growing up on the streets...

My biggest problem with this album: WAAAAYYY TOO MUCH PRODIGY/MOBB DEEP/BIG NOYD! Man those dude phone it in like no one else!

I think its Al that talks about being from the suburbs and Infamous Mobb that talks about growing up in the streets.

"WAAAAYYY TOO MUCH PRODIGY/MOBB DEEP/BIG NOYD!"

otm. but they have great voices which keeps everyone convinced theyre still worth checking for.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 11 June 2009 19:51 (sixteen years ago)

they are worth checking for. why is that a bad reason to keep checking for them?

autogucci cru (deej), Thursday, 11 June 2009 19:52 (sixteen years ago)

why is the fact that they are worth checking for a bad reason to keep checking for them? as long as you accept that as fact, its not.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 11 June 2009 19:59 (sixteen years ago)

in fairness to myself, that was prior prodigy's sorta comeback whatever, they seemed kinda wornout at the time i posted that...
