$8.
Well? Well?

San Carlos, Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

YES! DO IT! I'm seeing them on the 26th.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Therm, I need more convincing.

San Carlos, Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ummm.... they are good.
Yup.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Never seen them live before (I've tried twice and couldn't get in - sold out), I've always liked their recorded stuff and at $8 it's not a big financial gamble.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

THANKS! But now I'm worried it'll sell out...

San Carlos, Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Well what are you waiting for then? GO ON!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw them last night... the show started off really good (the first 4-5 songs (30-40 minutes))... after that it dragged a little. this was the 2nd time i'd seen them and i think they were a little better last time, but still it's pretty good.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Bottom of the Hill better than Du Nord, which is why I've been considering tonight... how was Tarentel (who aren't even playing tonight)?

San Carlos, Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I skipped them, ask kyle. yeah, i saw them at the BOTH last time and thought it was a better show, but this was much closer to my house.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

my friend charles atlas opened. I missed their set. it was allegedly good. I did see tarentel; they did a weird set that wasn't quite what I was expecting; their new(ish) drummer has been the focal point of all their shows over the past year and is very prominent on the new album, but they did more noise washes/zoviet france stuff and not as much of the propulsive drummy thing. It was good though. Do Make Say Think were excellent, i agree that they might have been better last time, but they also went on earlier last time. Last night ran really really late. Worth going to though. If you go tonight get there to see the Drift.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Thermo ... they're touring? They're playing in Toronto? When?

They played a three-gig residency here this past summer. I saw two of the shows -- excellent stuff. However, they'd added a string section for those shows, I have no idea if they're taking that expanded band on tour with them.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

this is two drums, electronics, sax, trumpet, guitar(s), bass

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, that's their usual ensemble.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The person I was counting on going with wants to do lame other things, that involve eating. I'm thinking of flying solo, cause I've decided in my head it might be worth it.

San Carlos, Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

...and Kyle, I do want to see the Drift.

San Carlos, Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to see them in Detroit on the 23rd. Never had seen them before. I like the cd I have by them, but to be honest, I'm more excited about seeing Windy and Carl open for them.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

So....

has anyone seen DMST on this tour?

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

As I mentioned earlier, I saw them during the summer. I'm assuming this tour will feature more or less the same show (minus the strings), since they never did properly tour their fourth album, right?
They play in Toronto again next week.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw them last night. They were pretty cool but not mind-blowing. I only have one album of theirs, though, so I might've been more into it if I'd known more of the material.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw them last week. they were great.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Where where? Any chance I get to mention leather pants near DMST is one I can't pass.

PS: They're good on tour if you ever liked GYBE on the road.

And they're touring for all the reasons other bands tour I suppose.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

which alb do you have jay?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Mobius Band are opening some of the dates I think, and they are definitely worth checking out. Great songs.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

slocki: I have & Yet & Yet. I've also heard the "Goodbye Enemy Airship" single, which they played.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

that's my favourite of theirs! do you like it?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Then you've heard all their best stuff(xpost)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it was in my top 10 of 2002!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

At one point, the band was extolling the virtues of Canada, in the hopes that the audience would immigrate "if the upcoming election goes well." It was neatly summed up when one band member said, "And if you shoot yourself stoned while at a gay wedding, we'll also pay for the hospital bills!"

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry -- "if the upcoming election DOESN'T go well"!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Mass cheering ensued, obv.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

it is good with the maree-juana (& yet & yet)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Then you've heard all their best stuff(xpost)
Arggh, my fault, I mixed up my album titles. Their most recent --"Winter Hymn Country Hymn Goto Him" (forgot the exact title) is their best, along with the track "Goodbye Enemy Airship". When I saw them last they played almost nothing from "& Yet & Yet".
But I'm sure you heard most of the newer album last night.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god, the leather trousers. I have never seen a band wear leather trousers in a so not-good way. Plus, 5-string fretless basses and whatnot. Oh no.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw them on this tour, a few weeks ago, and I thought it was super-boring. To be fair, though, it's not really my thing -- I also find GYBE really boring, so I'm probably the wrong person to be advising you. If you like their music generally, they were probably cool; just wasn't my cup of whatever.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw them in philadelphia a couple of weeks ago, and i thought it was fantastic. To be fair, they are totally my bag, so my opinion that it was the best show i've seen all year (and i average at least 1 a week) could be taken with a grain of salt.

mobius band opened, and they were ok, but sounded like they would be much better on a record than live.

the leglo (the leglo), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i think & yet & yet is much better than the latest myself

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 21 October 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry Barry, they're playing the 26th at the Phoenix. Although you've probably already figured that out by now.
