that some drunk bastard of a driver knocked him down and killed him.

Strangely enough, it only occurred to me that Saturday past (ILE Awards) was the 21st anniversary of Lennon's shooting, but I think CC's death cut me harder. A fundamentally good man who I wish was still around. I will play "The Great Learning" CD tonight and contemplate.

(now there's an idea - howzabout an ILx Scratch Orchestra tribute band?)

"Any direction modern music will take in England will come about only through Cardew, because of him, by way of him. If the new ideas in music are felt today as a movement in England, it's because he acts as a moral force, a moral centre."

Who said that then?

Wasn't that Terry Riley?

Man I used to watch his "Comedy Machine" on ATV in the early '70s. Hilarious Spike Milligan gags re. misunderstandings of the phrase "coptic light"!

nine years pass...

attended a keith rowe performance yesterday in commemoration of cardew (he incorporated part of one cardew's compositions into his improvisation, though i'm clueless as to which one or where it appeared). since i'm only really familiar with the early amm stuff wasn't sure what to expect from him, but very enjoyable and seemed to have an almost ritualistic aspect to it.
