who were LCD Soundsytem before LCD Soundsystem were? Who are the next LCD?

The obvious candidates for the pre-LCD are I guess Liquid Liquid, Talking Heads, The Fall, Daft Punk, Eno and Can but what other elements have been crucial to developing (if not providing an outright platform for plagiarism from) Murphy's LCD aesthetic?

Similarly, who - outside of DFA - is next likely to take the baton and run with it?

The Fall, and The Fall.

LCD Soundsystem are hardly Can, Talking Heads, The Fall or Eno. They're really not even Daft Punk. But they are good, and fun.

Pre: Lipps, Inc.
Post: none, because the appearance of "Losing My Edge" represents the coming of the end times.

That X1 'New York Is So Cool' song is a total rip-off of 'Losing My Edge'.

Reunion. Those tards who did "Life Is Iraq." Except I like the LCD track.

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Saturday, 16 October 2004 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, yeah, and Disco Tex, you know that part in "Get Dancin'" where the amphetamines kick in and he starts yammering wildly about "Radar Love" and wanting to Take You higher. It's all just the same thing, really.

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Saturday, 16 October 2004 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That Disco Tex album is a bit much.

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Sunday, 17 October 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

And LCD's "Losing My Edge" isn't a bit much?

two years pass...
I keep wondering why more of these bleepy bloopy folks like Eats Tapes don't take the cue from LCD and get some real drums already.

We went over this. Someone on Ed Banger. And then Galkin got mad.

Stevie D, Friday, 20 April 2007 07:53 (eighteen years ago)

Felix Da Housecat, obviously.

zeus, Friday, 20 April 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

Bimble...some artists who come more directly out of dance music, or more specifically fetishize dance music, in this case specifically chicago house and detroit techno, REALLY fetishize the drum machine. When I saw Eats Tapes in a basement in brooklyn a few years ago they were playing a circuit bent Roland 707. Not to say they won't ever use live drums, or that LCD doesn't appreciate non-live drums, but it's all about the drum machines.

dan selzer, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm, I'd say the original LCD Soundsystem was probably something like Campeg Velocet or maybe Bentley Rhythm Ace, some great obscure British Big Beat from the mid nineties.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

The new LCD Soundsystem? Well I dare say the Klaxons are fusing dance and rave into very interesting shapes currently. Also, Bolt Action Five from the London area also are very dancey but perhaps more poppy than the Klaxons and certainly deserve the same level of adulation as LCD have garnered. Check 'em out on myspace: www.myspace.com/boltactionfive

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

Also, Botl Action Five have even gone as far as calling themselves Bolt Action Five Soundsystem, which makes the comparisons even more obvious.

Ethan Gaymead, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

I decided a while back that Trans Am are the LCD Soundsystem that I don't hate

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 20 April 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

x-post Campag Velocet and Bentley Rhythym Ace may now be obscure, but they were certainly never great.
