So I've heard a lot of talk throughout this year about him being omnipresent, and I keep seeing him listed amongst the guest producers on ads for albums that I sure as hell am not going to buy (hello, D-12), BUT his level of success hasn't quite reached Neptunes level yet, internationally speaking (meaning I don't see him showing up on MTV Portugal all the time like Pharell used to), and there isn't as much enthusiasm for him on ILM as there was for the Neps and Timbaland (understandably enough, since threads about him always ended up turning into boring-ass Kanye Vs Crunk And Why Can't I Love Both? bitchfests), so I don't get regular updates on which new remixes and third tier artist singles to check out. Thus, this thread; what's worth downloading, apart from the stuff on his own album?

did West do Jadakiss 'We Gonna Make It'? - i did like that one

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 15 October 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I only just found out that he produced 'Stand Up'. I was quite surprised.

Sorry, that's not at all helpful.

"Sunshine" on the new Mos Def album is fucking KILLER.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"We Gonna Make It" was produced by Alchemist.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

my favorite Kanye productions of this year, that I can think of right now:
213 - "Another Summer"
White Boy f/ Kanye, John Legend and Belo from Do Or Die - "U Know"
Alicia Keys - "If I Ain't Got You" (Kanye remix)
Common - "The Food"
Twista - "Overnight Celebrity"
John Legend - "Used To Love You"
Consequence/Kanye - "Take It As A Loss"
Carl Thomas f/ Kanye - "The Way That You Do"

Al (sitcom), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and:
Jin - "I Got A Love"

"Sunshine" on the new Mos Def album is fucking KILLER.

Whoa, everyone's recording a track called "Sunshine" these days! Twista, Li'l Flip, Mos Def...

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

On Kanye's own album "Two Words" w/ Mos Def & Freeway, which is probably one of my favorite songs of the year in any genre.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i like Alchemist more then (also did the 'Got It Twisted' beat for Mobb Deep). 'We Don't Care' from TCD really stuck in my head tho.

Did Kanye do Twista's "Sunshine"?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

petey "i swear!!"
i mean the production is ok but "sometimes i wanna get in the car and just drive to the mall," jesus christ

bakers (thoia), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Sunshine the one with Anthony Hamilton that remakes Bill Withers? I love that song.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(and I'm pretty sure that Kanye didn't do it, not like there was a whole lot of production involved in that song)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish someone would post a comprehensive list somewhere of everything Kanye has ever put his hand to.

Did Kanye do Twista's "Sunshine"?
-- roxymuzak (emilysu...), October 15th, 2004.

nah, the only Kanye productions on Twista's album are "Slow Jamz", "Overnight Celebrity", and "One Last Time". I also highly reccomend "Show's Over" (aka "Show Go On") by Twista and Freeway, which is on Get Well Soon and was at different times on the tracklists for Philadelphia Freeway and Kamikaze, but ended up on neither. one of my favorite Kanye productions.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd have to say Overnight Celebrity is my favorite production-wise, but Slow Jamz is preferable to me on the lyrical/roffle front.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh shit yeah "Show Go On"!!!!!!!!! Or whatever it's called.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and also the Kanye version of "Badunkadunk" on I'm Good is way better than the Jazze Pha version on Kamikaze. I wonder why they changed it, maybe couldn't get the sample cleared.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I almost forgot "I Changed My Mind" by Keyshia Cole, which is one of the only really good R&B productions Kanye's done lately, which is weird considering that you'd think he'd be well suited to that sort of thing.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

another summer is great. overnight sleb still fantastic, including wicked 50 cent remix verse

dwele/kanye/consequence - hold on rmx, especially

janet jackson's 'strawberry bounce', bizarrely, and some others on the lp. surprised ilm dont like this

'whole city behind us' with game and luda is ok-ish

he did ruin 04 tho

candour floss (mwah), Saturday, 16 October 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

t.i 'doing my job' is prob a bit slept on too, but i like it better sans rap

candour floss (mwah), Saturday, 16 October 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"Overnight Celebrity" definitely my favourite, one of my favourite productions of the year; it's cheating but the Collipark remix of "Slow Jamz" is even better than *that*. "Doing My Job" is good yes albeit one of those Kanye tracks which may or may not be self-parody (this is not related to quality or lack of it).

I do have a large soft spot for Bleek's "Hypnotic" although it's a bit of a red herring - much of the reason why it works is that Kanye has the good sense to leave it alone mostly.

I remember his track on the Jadakiss album being pretty good but I'd have to pull it out again.

I think he's sort of living in the shadow of his own past greatness to some extent. My favourite thing by him will probably always be "Girls Girls Girls (Remix)". I think he's in a bit of a tight spot in that when he does more straightforward tracks they seem really generic by comparison but his sped-up soul thing is now so over-exposed as well. Just Blaze has left himself more room to grow I suspect - and has had the better year for plain unstoppable beats probably.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 16 October 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The really distinctive thing about "Overnight Celebrity" is not only that it combines a physically exciting groove with great samples (which Kanye doesn't always remember to do) but that the two are so thoroughly intertwined that it's impossible to disentagle them. The whole thing dovetails so perfectly.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 16 October 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Jadakiss's "Gettin' It In", is alright, cool string sample with "Jesus Walks"-y drums, but Kanye's verse is even worse than usual with Uranus/your anus puns and everything.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 16 October 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah but I don't listen to Kanye guest verses very closely for that reason.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 16 October 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i only found out that he produced "stand up" the other day as well,i was fairly surprised...
