i'm looking for songs sung in rounds like 'Row, Row, Row Yr Boat' where before the first line is finished, the second one starts.

Judy Henske & Jerry Yester's "Raider" does this wonderfully.

also looking for songs where different vocal parts are sung on top of each other.

good examples are the first song on Spiritualized "Ladies & Gentelmen We are Floating in Space", the first song on the Latyrx album and that one Velvet Underground song (from White Light?) where cale, reed and tucker are each in a different channel (left, right, center)

gracias

And how about the stereo effect in the chorus of The Kinks' "Starstruck"?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 15 October 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a French band that almost nobody has heard of (at least outside of France), who sing in English, and are extremely under appreciated. After people find out they exist, I think the indie community will jump all over them.

Anyway, just about the whole "Lady and Bird" (S/T) album is like that. Almost.

Towa Tei - 'Butterfly' (Cornelius Remix)

The multiple vocal parts overlapping thing was something Tori Amos was/is really good at on occasion - see "Space Dog" and especially "Father Lucifer" where three entirely different vocal melodies scan across each other beautifully.

Adam Bruneau (oliver8bit), Sunday, 17 October 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Somebody mentioned Moondog. Yeah, especially see the self-titled and MOONDOG 2 Columbia LPs, re-released on 1 CD. His "All Is Lonlieness" rocks round when adapted by Big Brother and the Holding Company (wot no Moondog trib yet). I've seen the Brian Wilson Orchestra stand up and sing a cappella rounds in concert; hope some of this is on their SMILE. Not a round per se, but effective overlapping/interjections: multitracked Patti Smith on title track of HORSES. Multiple Marvin Gayes on his MIDNIGHT LOVE might also fit.

JaXoN, the Velvets song you're referring to is "The Murder Mystery" from the third (untitled) LP. And it's actually Doug Yule, and not Cale, whom Yule had replaced.

Just so you know...:)
