Wait, was Artur Russell's Dinosaur the one that made J Mascis add Jr?

Or did a third group require Arthur to add the L and J the Jr?

no. it was another, classic rock dinosaur.

Yeah, wasn't it a "supergroup" of West Coasters, like from Moby Grape, etc.? Relix magazine released it? or maybe I'm confusing with the one they did on Zero, a similar crew.

i thought they became Jr. because of lineup changes or something, ie different band, differentname.. but i am not an expert

No, I remember reading a long time ago that, and I am quoting from memory something I read 10 years ago, "an old crusty hippy band" made them change their name. I just thought that maybe that was what some dude thought of Arthur Russell at some point. They had the same lineup for the first 3 albums but added Jr after the first.

I don't know; there is nothing on AMG about a classic rock Dinosaur.

The one on Relix was Dinosaurs and they're album came out in 88 after Dinosaur Jr's first two.

It was cos, just like Don said, there was a group of old west coast farts around at the same time called (the) Dinosaurs. Stellar line-up on paper really... John Cippolina (QMS), Spencer Dryden (Jefferson Airplane & also New Riders of the Purple Sage), Barry Melton (Country Joe & the Fish) and some geezer from Big Brother & the Holding Company (Pete Albin). Maybe someone else too, I think. Completely shit-soaked record though.

You're Living All Over Me originally came out as plain old Dinosaur too, but subsequent pressings had the junior appendage. First record with the name change from the get-go was the Show Me The Way/Little Fury Things EP.
