The Minders' Golden Street -- Forgotten Classic?

I could never figure it out, but this record just got totally overlooked -- or so it seemed. Perhaps it was the E6 association, but by this record they were free of all that. Golden Street just seemed to transcend all that backwards-looking shit that bogged the rest of the collective down. And I defy anyone to find an E6 record with better tunes than this -- the ebullient title track (with a positively stomping outro), the fuzzed-out "Hand On Heart", the simmering "We Never Shout" (great Mellotron outro). "Give Me Strength" McCartney would've been proud of ca. '65 or so -- one of the better "La la la" choruses in recent decades. "Right As Rain" deploys a killer female harmony. And throughout the production's very stripped down, but not without its layers.

Ok, so it kind of loses me after the piano instrumental. But that's track 8 -- and by then I'm quite satisfied.

nowhere near as good as their debut IMO but still lovely. "right as rain" is a wonderful song.

the minders are probably the only E6 band i still listen to with any regularity, for whatever that's worth.

No it kinda sucks. Their debut rules though.

yeah the minders lost it pretty quickly. this album was a disaster. the first and the singles compilation are each great though. for some reason around the time this was released a lot of the e6 bands went into rock band mode and became instantly terrible see-apples, dressy bessy, minders, etc...

I like Golden Street, but it's the type of album that's good when you're hearing it, but after a few months you can't remember if you liked it or not so you listen again and you're pleasantly surprised at how good it is, and it fades again etc. Which is to say I don't like Golden Street.

I've never heard this but if the songs are as good as the ones on Cul-de-sacs and Dead Ends I'd like to.

I only listened to it a few times, it was bit of a yawnfest. Elf Power are the only E6 band I listen to very often.

I agree that it's not the most nutricious record. But I enjoy it nonetheless. Perhaps I should have said "Forgotten Minor Classic"...

what about the record(ep?) they just released, i didn't even bother because i was certain it would be dreary and dull.

Just dug this out -- it's still fantastic.
