the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

wait'll lou reed gets laurie anderson's nursing home bill. that's when you'll get metal machine music II. :-)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ehh... whatshisname, the aktionist cat.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Fat Possum Records to thread? (that's the closest I can think of, although most of their artist are in their 70's, not their 80's).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Kim Gordon.

Good Dog, Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:05 (twenty-one years ago)

william bennett only has thirty or so years to go, surely

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Birdyak! I think when I saw them 3/4 of them were at least in their 70s. Awesome.

Douglas (Douglas), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Too bad Miles died. He could've pwned this shit.

There's always Ralph Stanley.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

How old is Derek Bailey? Not that he falls in this category all the time but he certainly has moments that do.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 17 October 2004 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Iannis Xenakis never softened or compromised.

Drew Daniel, Sunday, 17 October 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

John Lydon in 30 years time.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 17 October 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Iannis Xenakis never softened or compromised.

he's more stiff than ever these days.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 17 October 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Such a shame I missed birdyak's Bob Cobbing - I have an excellent LP from them (I have a feeling I have said this before). also henri chopin. derek is 74 now. I think many of these are on the category of people who didn't really change direction once they found what they were interested in.

I don't like some of xenakis's music from about 1973 onwards.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 17 October 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

me neither. come over to my house, bring 57 speakers, we'll listen to "persepolis" and reminisce.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 17 October 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

John Lydon in 30 years time.

-- Geir Hongro (geirhon...), October 17th, 2004.

Nah, he'll be knighted by then (it'll happen, you'll see) and recording covers of showtunes or something.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 17 October 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

JG Ballard should make records.

Wooden (Wooden), Sunday, 17 October 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Colin Nancarrow (spelling?), Sun Ra, Moondog stayed pretty intense(they might also get violent re my not keeping up with ages, or being sure of Colin's last name)

Don, Sunday, 17 October 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

How old are the guys in the Nihilist Spasm Band? Probably more in their 60s or so, but they still sound the exact same.

jjj, Sunday, 17 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

What was that band that played nursing home punk? The shittiness of diapers, etc. Featured on CNN back in the early 90s, I shit you not. One of the singers was only in her 50s, but she was the bait, to get you surrounded by their wheelchairs. Better than wot Oi've erd of Iron Prostate!

don, Sunday, 17 October 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Stockhausen hasn't quite hit 80 yet, but he's certainly not letting up.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Sunday, 17 October 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

pauline oliveros hasn't exactly turned into lawrence welk either.

Cynthia Nixon Now More Than Ever (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 17 October 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

chris andrews (fraew), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

To Live and Shave in L.A.?

finger hut, Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure if any Smegma members are pushing 80 yet but they're up there.

joseph pot (STINKOR™), Sunday, 17 October 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

and the residents?

chris andrews (fraew), Sunday, 17 October 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

had he lived, i'm sure that frank zappa would have made some nasty music whilst elderly.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 17 October 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"JG Ballard should make records.
-- Wooden (josephgoode...), October 17th, 2004."

This must happen.

Mark E. Smith surely - he must age in dog years. Have you seen him lately?

Sasha (sgh), Sunday, 17 October 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Cynthia: Are there Pauline Oliveros pieces you consider violent or misanthropic? Maybe some are - I haven't listened to everthing. Intense, I could see.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 17 October 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I think it would really surprise me if she did something misanthropic - it seems totally contrary to her principles.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 17 October 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

pete seeger.

j.m. lockery (j.m. lockery), Monday, 18 October 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i just meant intense, sundar.

Cynthia Nixon Now More Than Ever (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 18 October 2004 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

So you don't think Lawrence Welk is intense then?;)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 18 October 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

My Dad might beg to differ.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 18 October 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The nursing home punk band I mentioned was One Foot In The Grave, I think. I'll try to google.

don, Monday, 18 October 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Look for the Wergo box set of Conlon Nancarrow's pianos--the pieces he composed/recorded shortly before he died is, in my opinion, the *wildest* he had ever done.

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

don, that's correct. they're from Sun City, Arizona.

Avi (Avi), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

bingo gazingo! (the village voice says he's "seventysomething," but maybe he's lying.)

fact checking cuz (fcc), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Well just wait until Jandek gets that old.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Steven Stapleton of Nurse with Wound. Imagine what his funeral will be like. Keep your children close and hold them tight.

cdwill, Monday, 18 October 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

If only G.G. Allin lived to see 80...

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 18 October 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

How about Dizzy Gillespie? Or did he quit making music after he got completely out of his mind?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 18 October 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

When did Dizzy Gillespie go out of his mind?

Not That Chuck, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh Maan, i figured all the originals were dead now (except for the then-fiftysomething chantoosie); that illustrates their point, but she's kept in going with *all* these fiftysomethings! Oh well, at leas the founders are still preserved on aluminum-coated plastic: LOKING GOOD! WHO'S YOUR EMBALMER? and OLD FARTS (onefoot.com)

don, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

asmus tiechens

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Whatever happened to Copernicus, ranting over orchestra? He was pretty old when I first heard of him, 20 years ago.

don, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Ligeti

joseph pot (STINKOR™), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Saturday, 9 January 2010 23:56 (sixteen years ago)

Burroughs was 78, so not quite in his 80's, when this was recorded. Also includes a different reading of the Priest AKA "The Junky's Christmas"

I don't find those Burroughs recordings that scary but maybe if I grew up in a conservative community I would.

Trayce, tell us more about the Italian monk!

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Monday, 11 January 2010 00:18 (sixteen years ago)
