I'm currently going through a monkees phase. What else is there in the world of tuneful catchy bubblegum with a psych edge?

The Turtles and the Association: anything from 1966 on.

Also, Orpheus, they of the Bosstown sound. It's a lovely day down on Congress Alley.

And I'd put later Left Banke in this category: "Myrah," etc.

But NOT Bubble Puppy's "Hot Smoke and Sasafrass," even though they and Lemon Pipers more or less define "bubblegum psych."

The Electric Prunes and Strawberry Alarm Clock come to mind

Lemon Pipers, "My Green Tambourine"
Strawberry Alarm Clock, "Incense and Peppermints"
Tommy James & the Shondells, "Crimson & Clover"

The multicoloured song titles themselves scream ersatz psychedelia. Which can sometimes be more fun than the real thing.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The Marmalade--"Station on Third Avenue," "I See the Rain," etc.

The Move--"Hello Susie," "Fire Brigade," "I Can See the Grass Grow," "Flowers in the Rain," "Wild Tiger Woman," "Lightning Never Strikes Twice," "Omnibus."

Easybeats--"Heaven and Hell"

oh, this genre! \

rhino handmade just put out two new nuggets comps that are in this vein - otherwise, OTM everyone. um, also - todd rundgren is really poppy-psych (psychy-pop?), especially on a wizard, a true star.

"TropicalĂa Essentials" is pretty much bubblegum psych. "Bat Macumba" and the fast version of "Procession." Gal Costa's "Divine Marvelous." Bubblegum about the joys of living in a police state...

The song "My Friend Jack" by Smoke is a total classic.

Marcel - Did Captain Groovy and his Bubblegum Army ever issue anything besides their eponymous song? That song weirds me out. All those "I will lead you so follow me children" songs like that and the Doors' "Tell All the People" are bubblegum fascism, I tell ya!
