I say “I touch myself” by Divinyls is a classic. I like it. Vh1 said it was one of the 40 worst dirty songs ever, but screw them — I like it.

It was fair comment.

I liked the part in Austin Powers when Austin starts dancing to that song. The he cross–mojinates with the sex robot things. Funny.

Dante, Der Führer (Sean3), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like it a lot more if it had never been mentally associated with Mike Meyers, but yeah, the chorus is great.

I remember finding Christina Amphlett strangely sexy when I was little. Am I wrong about this? I scarcely remember what she looks like nowadays...

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 18 October 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Unquestionably...a really good song, yes.

How ya doin' Ian?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ew...that looks pretty recent, so I'll conjecture that she's gone in the direction of botulism. Any video stills from "Pleasure and Pain" and "I Touch Myself" in this thread?

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

for this thread, even.

Hello Dan, didn't know you died? How's the afterlife? Do I know you from somewhere?

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I just posted the Scala Choir version of I Touch Myself yesterday - I never knew how much I loved the song until I heard that version.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

another resounding YES to this one

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think we know each other; I was just wondering how the picture posted to this thread had affected your Divinyls crush.

(There was a very silly ILE thread yesterday that prompted my name change. I would direct you towards it but it's really, really wrong in places. It's about Republican sex.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh that's what prompted it. I hadn't read the full thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember someone telling me way back when that in an interview they claimed the song was abt jesus and not sexual at all. any truth to this?

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I love this song. My girlfriend and I covered it.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

That Scala version is amazing.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

they claimed the song was abt jesus and not sexual at all. any truth to this?

obviously it can be about whatever they want it to be about, but as for the songwriter's original intent, i'm not sure they're in a position to know, as they didn't write it. outside songwriters billy steinberg and tom kelly did.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

and, yes, it is a damn good song.

VH1's compilations of "Worst **** songs ever" are always fundamentally insane. Their choices always seem to be a bit anti-pop.

Leon Czolgosz in NYC (Nicole), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Which is weird, because VH1 is such a pop channel. But then, they are marketing stuff to people who fancy themselves elitist...

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

They had other songs that were better, mind you.

..specifically "Boys in Town" on this album.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Desperate was a great album. Very 80s, sounds very dated now, but I loved it. "Boys in Town" was the best track; also good were "Elsie" and maybe "Ring Me Up."

todd (todd), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

She's seen better days:

Boys In Town is indeed a great snog

mentalist (mentalist), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

great song as well

mentalist (mentalist), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan, I was pretty scarred by that, but I've been rejuvenated due to that other image of her...thank goodness I wasn't crazy a kid as I nearly thought I was!

Was the entry something related to that bullshit study about Republicans having better sex lives? Or was it related to the fact that after endorsing Dubya, Ah-nuld was denied sex from Maria Shriver for fourteen days?

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wow. the scala version. sick sick sick. and good.
