I need to think of some songs for my band to fill time for a bar set. The more simple they are to learn, the better.

Isn't that what fake-books are for?

Back In Black is hard to sing.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 October 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

And it has that crazy part in the middle.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 October 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

gosh...
Well you can learn the entire first ramones album in a matter minutes, that should fill up some time. Easy to sing, no crazy parts.

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

OF minutes

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought of "I Wanna Be Sedated" already, as well as "What I Got" and "Used To Love Her" by GNR.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 October 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

EVERYBODY does "I Wanna Be Sedated", though. At least go for "Blitzkrieg Bop" if you're going for generally recognizable. Or else just blare through "Commando" or something.

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, you know what the easiest popular song ever is? Stone Temple Pilots "Vaseline".
Seriously, listen to that thing. Bow-bum-Bow-bum-Bow-bum-Bow-bum-Bow-bum.
Two notes repeated until the chorus, and then you just play Blondie's "One Way Or Another" riff (in a different key maybe? I never checked!) and then back to the two note (F and G I believe) thing and voila!
Of course if I ever saw a band play that I'd think they were total dorks, or at least just lazy.

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"Crackerman" took us 10 minutes to learn.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 October 2004 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps you should consider not playing gigs until you can fill a set yourselves.

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"You Really Got Me" - The Kinks

Bruce S. Urquhart (BanjoMania), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

We already play shows, we're just trying to expand the songlist to include more than just 80's metal.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 October 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't CCR's "Commotion" like one chord? An Em7 or something like that? Go for that one.

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's just Am actually, you get the point.

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah it ain't that either, just pick a chord and run with it, no one'll know the difference.

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Monday, 18 October 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I learned "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young on guitar and I don't play guitar.

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 18 October 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

something by neu!

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 18 October 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

This is about the extent of my technical knowledge, but I'm happy to share: Elvis' "His Latest Flame" and the Go-Go's' "How Much More" are the same song. The Go-Go's one may have one extra chord in the bridge, but that's the only difference.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 18 October 2004 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Lou Reed's "Vicious" is easy as anything and a total blast to play. We used to do it in my old band; I sang it in a Prince-type falsetto. It went over really well.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 18 October 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Tom Dooley" to thread, I guess ;)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 18 October 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" (cringes)

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"In the Midnight Hour."

"Sookie Sookie" by Don Covay.

"Born to Be Wild."

"Guantanamera."

"Like a Rolling Stone" (just make up some new words, no one'll care)

"Land of 1000 Dances"

eddie hurt (ddduncan), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Just make some big distortion noise and people will call you genius.

Elvis is Dead, Monday, 18 October 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Flipper "Sex Bomb" seconded.

Not the drums

Sasha (sgh), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just about to say that about the drumming.

Isn't CCR's "Commotion" like one chord? An Em7 or something like that? Go for that one.

-- A Million Talking Hot Dogs (aaronh...), October 18th,

I need to hear this! I had no idea CCR did dronerock!

This is about the extent of my technical knowledge, but I'm happy to share: Elvis' "His Latest Flame" and the Go-Go's' "How Much More" are the same song. The Go-Go's one may have one extra chord in the bridge, but that's the only difference.

The Smiths' "Rusholme Ruffians" is another version of this. I can't even think about the Smiths song since I heard the Elvis.
