I am totally bummed that I didn't buy Chico's Mosaic box and now it went out of print. dammit. now I gotta go to eBay and pay through the nose. hate that.

Do you know anything about the track "Blue Sands" by the way? It's the one in Jazz on a Summer's Day, though for some reason it's listed as "Chico's Chiquitas". In the film, Chico does this massive crescendoing and decrescendoing roll around the kit for the entire tune. The only recorded version I've heard was on a Buddy Colette disc (Colette wrote the tune and was a sometime bandmate of Chico's). But that version didn't have the awesome drum part, and I can't find one that does. I got the soundtrack to the film but it's extremely poor quality and seems to have been edited.

The Dealer is all I've heard of him as a bandleader ... but yeah, it's great. The title track is a good companion (thematically/musically) to the VU's "Waiting for the Man." Seriously.

i've been looking for the chico hamilton quintet w strings, it's the first eric dolphy recorded performance i think.. can't find nowhere

tried the dealer but couldn't make it past larry coryell's entrance. guitars often ruin a lot of otherwise good fusion records for me.

I wish El Chico was on cd, but I have it on vinyl, thank goodness.

Man From Two Worlds features an amazing band and seems totally underrated. Charles Lloyd and Gabor Szabo are absolutely on fire on this record!

I have just been listening to The Dealer as well, which is even better.

Man from Two Worlds is now on a 2fer with Passin Thru BTW. Just saw that As i looked up The Dealer online.

I see Passin Thru also has Szabo on board so I probably need that.

It's one of the recent Impulse series so should be available somewhere pretty cheap

Gets two or three lines (and some performance time) in one the greatest films ever, Sweet Smell of Success.

I was trying to work out how that fit since it thought the film was late 50s.

Thought the lps being talked about were mid 60s.

I'd been trying to think earlier who Hamilton's famous alumni were . Is it just Charles Lloyd and Larry Corryell? at least in terms of who came to public notice with him
