andy sez environmental new agey junk. the strangest i've seen was booty bass and drum and bass remixes of hiphop songs on cassette in buttfuck middle pennsylvania. what's the oddest music you've found in a totally unlikely location. (and did you buy it?)

I don't have an answer, but were the remixes any good?

some yes, some no. that remix of "black gold" by 4hero that ethan was so in love with a while back was on there. there was a lame "one in a million" remix by armand van helden which added nothing to the original. i forget what else...dillinja remixing jeru? aphrodite was on there... an ex has the tape now.

the booty cd was ALL GOLD, however.

jess, I don't know where you're from, but in Cali, the music in gas stations is suprisingly good.

Witness: Cruisin' Classics.

Sterl, back me up on this...

Oh. My. God. Crusin' Classics = 6 tape set from Shell back many years ago. First three are an incredible set of selections from 50s & 60s. Next three do 60s, 70s, 80s in order and get increasingly mildly crap. I've had the tapes for well on ten years, and they're still very good to drive to.

"Elvis Sings For Kids (And Grownups, Too!" found in a convenience store in Lansing, Michigan. My friend bought it. It's incredible. Has "Wooden Heart," (w/ half the lyrics in German, think it's from the "Change of Habit" soundtrack) plus "Old McDonald" (interesting in that Elvis is unable to pronounce "oink" correctly).

Animals make different noises in the south.

I bought a Herman's Hermits tape on a road trip through Indiana. Only it wasn't really Herman's Hermits. The cassette was pink, and it sounded like some REM-ish jangly 80s band playing Herman's Hermits songs. So bizarre. And so bad. I think the truck stop cassette days were better when they were 8-tracks. I've got a bunch of trucker tapes. My dad used to have a job that took him on the road, and he'd bring home tons of this shit.

I bought a best of bubblegum tape, and Aaron Carter cassingle, and Hank Williams greatest hits from some gas station near Bakersfield. This might have been the last time I paid for music, actually.
