Any ideas for music-related Halloween costumes? I'm looking for ideas that are easy and cheap to actually use.

I'm gonna be Karen O! I really should get started on it.

xpost - Maria Callas was a heavyset tall girl in her prime, and she's bound to be good costume material.

tbf, a lot of(dum) people would probably mistake the above costume for a gypsy queen or something. dunno.

no problem, and good luck w/ your search. I'd recommend Mama Cass to, but then you'd end up as the butt of a thousand unfunny ham sandwich jokes and a hundred funny but tasteless John Phillips digs. you can't win.

I can think of a ton of characters I'd like to dress up as if not for their relative obscurity. I'll be very impressed with myself if I can work up the courage to go as Tycho Brae this year.

Also, finefinemusic is nowhere near as heavy-set as Mama Cass (nor Beth Ditto, for that matter...).

You should definitely go as Tycho Brahe!

Running around all fake-nose, orbitted by the sun and moon, haulin' a dead moose.

Years back a friend had a simple, brilliant Dylan-inspired Halloween costume: he stapled 20 pounds of headlines to his chest. (Not really 20 pounds, but you get the idea). I adapted the idea years later. I wore a grey sweat suit that had matchbox cars stapled end-to-end along my arms, legs and trunk. I went as the Brooklyn Queens Expressway at rush hour.

oh man, tycho brahe! that's insane and I love it.

my fiancee just got his hair cut so I am trying to convince him (this is NOT going to happen, sadly) that we should spray his hair silver and then we can be Tyra Banks (me.. I hope) and Mr. Jay (Manuel). I'm not as big as Beth Ditto or Mama Cass - thanks KKvG! - but any plus size costume (I am a 16) is "Sexy Witch" or "Sexy Pirate." Blegh. I am going to hold out hope I can find a Joan dress and do it up Mad Men style, but in the meantime I am furiously searching for neat ideas. Daria? Flava Flav? I wish I could afford the viking costume Julianne Moore wears in the Big Lebowski..

despite the suggestions I listed, I really did mean to revive the *music* thread! More ideas/past glory bragging/pictures please! Doesn’t have to be ideas for me.. I just LOVE costumes.product of being uncomfortable in my own skin? :P
