Def Leppard's "Bringin' on the Heartbreak": In my opinion one of the best, if not the best, songs to come out of the hair metal era. Classic!

Both versions, no less. Don't forget they re-released Hi' N' Dry following the success of Pyromania. The latter version, which had a video on the MTV, had cheesy synths in the chorus.

Original version: Classic. Cheesy Synth Version: Classic Xtreme.

I'm not sure if I've ever heard the synth version... where can I hear it?

King Korn Karn, Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

HUGE fuckin' classic (or at least they original version on High'n'Dry). Too bad they didn't retain this sound.

Both rule, yes. I remember when it started getting some airplay after Pyromania hit and I was deeply confused as said song was not on that album.

Pyromania's cover art is still one of the greatest covers ever created. Much as I think Hysteria is the superior album, it's all about that target site and the building.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hysteria is NOT superior to Pyromania, Ned. Didn't we have this fight on a different thread?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, and I am right. Much thanks. *strokes chin and frowns in direction of apocalyptic specter rising in wrath over the eastern horizon*

John McLaughlin's looking good for his age.

This discussion makes me want to listen to High N' Dry again. I used to love the title track and "No No No". I wonder if they still hold up today...

darin (darin), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The fans choose 'Hysteria' by a gillion!

The fans are idiots.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

aren't these records all due for the remaster/reissue treatment by now?

Avi (Avi), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

remastering would make them evaporate

dave q, Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic, for sure. Would love to see remasters, although I probably still wouldn't buy "On Through The Night".

Too bad that the version of High'n'Dry currently in print in the USA doesn't contain the second version of the track (nor "Me and My Wine"). I had to track down a Canadian import for the extra tracks.

I'm in the Pyromania > Hysteria camp.
Hell, I think the original b-side (to "Women") of "Tear It Down" probably tops everything on Hysteria. And I don't mean the flaccid re-recording for Andrenalize. Jeesh, suck the life out of a track, why don't ya.

two years pass...

the scene where they record this song in the VH1 movie about Def Leppard is really classic. Something really special about that scene.

I've only ever heard the Mariah Carey cover version. Twas quite good.

Christyles, Monday, 13 August 2007 06:16 (eighteen years ago)

Actually as far as Def Leppard go (and I can't say I'm a fan of them), Bringin' on the Heartbreak is not bad at all. Cheers.

Bimble, Monday, 13 August 2007 06:22 (eighteen years ago)

Not classic, but they were on to something. The best thing they did before "Pyromania".

Geir Hongro, Monday, 13 August 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

Probably the best thing they did ever, really. My suspicion is that Pete Willis is the main guy behind that tune. The chord progression during the verse is interesting and unusual.

four years pass...

the mariah version slays
