Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooooo.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

So is this out? I'll take the Soft Pink Truth please, thanks.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

this is great - i love "Confession" especially. this is so much better than "do you party?" from what i have heard.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i bigged up "Confession" in another thread a few weeks back and Drew Daniel mailed thru my log in to say ~"thanks for digging the track". how cool of him!

it also made me feel a bit guilty for not digging "do you party?" though. I prefer this cos he lets the beats roll more and doesnt chop/chop/chop them.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, this could be entertaining.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, the creed and minor threat covers are awesome

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

(and i never thought i'd hear myself saying THOSE words)

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This looks scary!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Creed vs. Crass

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Is "Can You Take Me Higher" the bonus track or something?
But, yeah, I want this please. Is it out?

Clusterfuck at the Baja Fresh Salsa Bar (Ben Boyer), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Crass.... yeah, got too excited to type properly

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Patrick Woodroffe should sue over the cover art.

Who exactly are th Soft Pink Truth, and what do they sound like?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

They're basically a funky Matmos side project. POO="Gender Studies"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

soft pink truth are one half of matmos, Alex. thier fisrt record was microedited digi-funk. this one's electro-punk.

xp

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: my description vs Jed's. I like Jed's.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I still listen to "Gender Studies" alot.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Would I dig it, y'think?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I honestly have no idea what this new one will sound like. I'm curious, but always avoided the covered bands.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a fun record, and none of these songs sound much like the originals.

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

same here Spencer. I think I had a benefit here, of hearing the whole thing before I knew about the "covers" thing, and it's still just a really solid album. fun and awesome

xpost

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool! I'll check it out then.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It comes out this tuesday, on Tigerbeat6. It's around on slsk...

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

And Drew Daniel is around on ILE. He just left a comment on the Derrida thread!

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, I shouldn't intrude on this thread for obvious reasons but . . .

Public apology: the Rudimentary Peni song is actually called "Media Person" NOT "Media Friend" as my record's artwork mistakenly says. A fairly embarassing fuck up on my part, might as well fess up early.

*hides*

Drew Daniel, Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

So maybe it is a Creed cover!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait for this record to hit the shops!! do you party was one of my favourite records of last year.

simon 803 (simon 803), Thursday, 21 October 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Definatly an interesting choice of covers! Die Kreuzen, Angry Samoans, Minor Threat, Crass!

At least I ain't the only old punk rocker into this dance thing.

hector (hector), Thursday, 21 October 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i just really love the thought of something being called "the soft pink truth". i think if i ever made a porn film, id call it that.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 22 October 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This is really good- just listening to part of 'Kitchen' now, and it's got some zing to it.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Friday, 22 October 2004 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Also sass, lots of sass.

Kevin H (Kevin H), Friday, 22 October 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG, the Crass cover is a hoot! The phrase "Ofcausetheyfuckingdo!" was born to be vocodered!

Nag! Nag! Nag! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Friday, 22 October 2004 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I played 'Out of Step' to a half-full bar of chattering nerds last night.

I love this album.

DJ Mencap0))), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I want new wave.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 24 October 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i was wondering if that was the same drew on ILE...

my message to drew..."did you ever get that music video for coat check?" - what'd you think? ripped off martin arnold too much?

ndeyoung, Tuesday, 26 October 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

just got this today and it's fucking incredible! (especially PLU doing vocals on the crass cover)

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

drew, just heard the L Voag cover on Michael Goodstein's radio show. Awesome. Definately one of my faves of his. I lean towards the poppy side...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 13 November 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Die Maxi Geil Soft Pink Troof are opening for DMX Krew tonight at MIGHTY and the bathrooms that would make Dave Wakeling proud. I know milton is going, but is Alex in SF? is JaX0n?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 22 November 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

ken is. so's drew.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Monday, 22 November 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken did you see Fox Pause play on Friday night? JaX0n and I did.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex is not (Alex is not feeling particularly well.) In a strange coincidence, Alex's girlfriend met Mssrs. Daniel and Schmidt last night though.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Feel better Alex!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you coming out on Wednesday night?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 22 November 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ILMerz, I am on at 11:00 ish so come on down and say hi if you are there . . . I'll be the one dressed in microphone feedback . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 22 November 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken did you see Fox Pause play on Friday night? JaX0n and I did.

-- gygax! (gygax0...), November 22nd,

ah, no. were they good?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

They were great! I was really impressed. They were much better than Tree Hugger but maybe not as good as the long extended intro that Ass Baboons From Venus were doing... live sampled xylophone and DSP'd toms. I could have listened to that all night.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

(Sorry to derail this thread!)

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

that was so funny about the intro to Ass Baboons. no one was sure if they had started or were just warming up, but it sounded really cool. g, i didn't realize you had left. were you there when the white dude with the leather gstring jumped into the crowd into a bunch of chairs and started piling the chairs upon his head? and then he lay on his back and reinacted that one scene from Pink Flamingos where the dude made his asshole pucker and talk? also whole foods crush said hi to me. i said hi and wiggled away sheepishly

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Ass Baboons From Venus!
