Yes, and report back.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 21 October 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK YES.
I'd like to go and am considering booking a flight.
If she ever shows in the city, somebody needs to scream at me.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

right - wise words. will report back.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I would go, but I'm washing my hair, for real.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, fuck it - I just realised this is under 5 mins away from my flat. I should go.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

ill meet you there alba - inside or outside? ill be there bout 10-30.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

shes on at 11 ish

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah cool. Just see you inside. I'll be there 10.30.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked that. Only about half an hour. Jesus, she's young, or I'm old or something. Glasgow did her proud, I think.

"I'm hungry"
"WANT HAGGIS!"
"I'm hungry"
"WANT HAGGIS!"
"Nah, I want fish and chips"

She got most animated when talking about some girl Jantena or something, and bothering the neighbours upstairs.

New single 'Random' sounded good.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool. I think I'm going in Dundee on Saturday - my brothers visiting me though, so it depends if he wants to go...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I was wondering about how Dundee would be for her. Good turnout tonight.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i thought she was saying one haggis, that makes more sense

ladyintheradiator (ladyinradiator), Thursday, 21 October 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

that was great fun. Hungry? haggis!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 21 October 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

"She got most animated when talking about some girl Jantena or something"

N. are you being deadpan or have you not yet heard the recorded version of her Jentina send-up "Sad Arse Stripper"?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 22 October 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

No, not being deadpan! I hardly know anything about grime, and the only non-Streets LS thing I had was Ch-Ching. Jed told me about the Jentina thing afterwards. As I say, I probably wouldn't have gone if it wasn't round the corner from my flat, but I'm glad I did.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i just sent one of the Jentina Hate tracks to yr gmail, alba.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Ta.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i *hate* you (read: envy you)

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The police turned up twice during the run up to the gig to tell them to turn it down, The block this bar is on is mostly offices but must have some residential in there too. Unfortunately for those residents the thing got about 4 times louder when Lady Sovereign came on. KILLER bass, it sounded incredible. She was TINY("I'm only five foot one") but her presence was amazing. She was playing on the top of the steps near the doorway to the bar - no stage or anything and anyone who was coming in late had to walk past her to get through. Stirmonster came in a bit late and as he came through the door she paused and said "Oh fuck, lets hope this aint the neighbours", brilliant. i think she payed 7 or 8 tracks in around 25-30 minutes or so the only ones of which i really recognised were "chi-ching" and the Jentina Hate track ("anyone know anyone called Jentina?" - cheers from the audience - "I fuckin hate that girl!!!"). She also did a freestyle over Wiley's "Eskimo". i thought the bass was going to bring the walls down at that point.

At the end of the gig she hung around in the bar near the door and just about everyone there i think shook her hand or said something to her on the way out. she semed like a great girl.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

there;s more than one Jentina hate track?! i am seriously behind on Lady Sov.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

she does sound great but Jentina has atoned for her sins somewhat with 'French Kisses' so it's time to cut her some slack

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the idea of a continuous string of anti-Jentina tracks. Not that I have anything against the singer personally but it's like ILX behaviour come to life in music.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, you fucking bitch!

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

She could do one called "Jentina: I name my reasons why she is so bad and hated"

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

urgent and key reasons she is so bad and hated?

jed_ (jed), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

She's a fucking bitch. I bet she was behind the complaints. I hate people who moan about noise.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i think Jentina should release a track called 'Sorry I Have Annoyed You But You Shouldn't Need To Berate Me And What I Do In Order To Boost Your Own Rep Considering Your Evident Talents, Clart'

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"Jentina: A Logistical Beatdown"

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

jentina is probably sexy and lady sov is just jealous.

DVD (dickvandyke), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"St Tropaaaay, Neligeeeee, when the hell you gonna learn to speak proplaaaaay??" She is a genius and Jentina is sux.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

they're both pretty cute 'cept LS is a possibly a bit too p to the ikey. i can't have 'French Kisses' in my head without both Kylie's 'Slow' and 'One Minute Man' creeping in tho.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah steve i just d/loaded "French Kisses" it really does sux. man.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 22 October 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Lady Sov should just remake every Jentina single as a Jentina Hate Track, like musical stalking. It's kind of funny that the best thing either of them have done is Sad Ass Strippa - Lady Sov MCing over a Jentina track.

I like French Kisses a lot, you can tell Cathy Dennis was thinking about her own solo career and the early 90s a lot when she wrote it.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 22 October 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i think Jentina should release a track called 'Sorry I Have Annoyed You But You Shouldn't Need To Berate Me And What I Do In Order To Boost Your Own Rep Considering Your Evident Talents, Clart'

Did you read that C4 Teletext interview too?

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 22 October 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet this Jentina calls her Louise Harman to annoy her.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

jentina is probably sexy and lady sov is just jealous.

ummm....because LS isn't sixty-one inches of rowwwr?

Lukas (lukas), Friday, 22 October 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

no, she is too. but girls get insecure yknow......

DVD (dickvandyke), Saturday, 23 October 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

lady sovereign's jentina dis was pure classique. i think that's what made me get into lady s (if only i could!). but a little bit of shush and chi-ching are equally great. i love how the beats gel with the vocals, sth i missed in shystie's record. she posts on the uk music message board on which she's critiqued heavily, but she stays there not caring one bit. she's recording a record at the moment.

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 23 October 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

(jentina not only sucks because of her crap music career but also because of keith flint ;-) )

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 23 October 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sad I missed this, it sounds really good.

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 23 October 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Shit - there was so many of you folk around at these nights - who knows how many of you actually met.

It has been an absolute joy to spend the last three days in the company of Sov and Frampster (her DJ). She has rocked every night. I will go into more length in a few days time (once I have slept) - Dundee was huge last night, a really big crowd. Best set and sound was probably Edinburgh, and funniest trials with the police in Glasgow.

A few quick facts:

- There will be a webbroadcast of the Glasgow gig on Radio Magnetic this Wednesday night. As you will hear, she didn't have the Jentina "bad ass Strippah" dub with her, so just freestyled it.

- Much thanks to the person who had the dub on slsk - you made the next two nights.

- Edinburgh we presented her with the new Jentina picture-disc. It is now shattered, never played, and in someones possession as a keep-sake. Somehow, she got the whole crowd singing ghostbusters. If looks could kill, when Paul played Lady Fury he could have died five times over!

- Dundee was a riot. A crowd invasion, some dundee MC being given the Mic, and her having a laugh. We actually needed security for her.

I have a recording of the Dundee night, and it has come out really well. We'll see what comes out of it once mastered and with them.

Well - anyway. We're all off to Optimo. I will write some more when I get a chance. I think the final word was "Jentina - she's just pop".

___ (___), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm off to Optimo too. Maybe we'll see you there, without knowing, though.

Didn't realise you were involved in all this. Well done.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers Alba - yeah, see her and ask for Spence. Probably the easiest way. It should be a fun night - would be good to say hi (at the observatory we were a touch stressed!).

___ (___), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i can intoduce you both!

see you there ___, soo you sooner Alba.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 24 October 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
Is anyone going to see her at Knitting Factory?

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

I just found out about the Chicago show (July 8 at Sonotheque), so I'm pretty stoked.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

She also did a freestyle over Wiley's "Eskimo".

OMG! I WANT TO HEAR THIS SO bAD!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

i certainly want to now that i know the show exists!

joseph (joseph), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

chicago at sonotheque- no shit. do you know if you can get tickets, or is it going to be one of those Puma "celebrity DJ" clusterfucks?

b'angelo, Wednesday, 22 June 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Its going to be a $10 cover at sonotheque. I'm excited, Annie was great there last week.

temeraire (r h), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Though, I'm really looking forward to Superpitcher at Smart Bar on the 22nd...

temeraire (r h), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

I'll see you at both shows.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Cool, I'll probably be there with two blond girls, one who will undoubtedly be drunk. Look for a taller brunette - that will be me.

temeraire (r h), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

Never realised she played in Dundee, would have been good. I'm glad it was busy.

Michael Lambert (Michael Lambert), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

rock! jaymc - i'm pushing to go to both of these shows, so hopefully i'll get a chance to *actually* talk to you instead of just blabbering drunken ramblings.

natedey (ndeyoung), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Is the Chicago show Thursday or Friday? I've seen conflicting dates...

Gavin, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

Friday.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

We were at Sonotheque last week and saw flyers that said July 8.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there too. I invited a bunch of people too who'll probably join me. Looking forward to it.

deej.., Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

Gavin I'd like to meet you too!

deej.., Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

I'm ddrake by the way.

deej.., Tuesday, 5 July 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Cool, I'll probably be wearing a White Sox hat with red-outlined letters.. Brown hair, glasses, 5'10", etc, so probably won't stand out that much.

Gavin, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

so now that some of us have had chances to get tickets, who's going to the NYC show?

lemin (lemin), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

I def want to see the Chi show? Where IS Sonotheque, though? I'm still new around here.

giboyeux (skowly), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Hi, giboyeux. Sonotheque is at 1444 Chicago Ave. -- basically three blocks west of the Chicago Blue Line stop.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

Gavin, I assume you're the Gavin M. I've heard so much about?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:53 (twenty years ago)

Oh great! I retract my question on the ILE Chicago thread, then.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Haha i told jaymc to recognize me when we saw annie at sonotheque by my sox cap....

deej.., Wednesday, 6 July 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

so now that some of us have had chances to get tickets, who's going to the NYC show?

I've got tickets.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

WHUP! Didn't know!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

lady sovereign isn't a real grime act. she didn't come up through the pirate stations.

grime lover, Wednesday, 6 July 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

news you can use, people!

i'm going to the new york show. drinks?

W i l l (common_person), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Sarah and I may or may not be at the Chi. show. Probably will.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Its great being in Chicago this summer, so few shows worth seeing ever really come to New Orleans.

temeraire (r h), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

She's a fucking bitch. I bet she was behind the complaints. I hate people who moan about noise.

-- Alba (albab...), October 22nd, 2004.

Fancy that - people trying to sleep.

Bill31, Wednesday, 6 July 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

Yo, my reputation precedes me or something? Anyway, last call for this show... If you want to say what's up I'll have a Sox hat and a white t-shirt that says "Andover Wine Club" (don't worry, I went to public school, I'm still street). I can't promise anybody drinks because (a) I don't know you, and (b) I just spent a lot of money to fix my girlfriend's car. But yeah, holla at me if you feel like that.

Gavin M, Friday, 8 July 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

I am wearing jeans, a dark blue shirt, and a tan tie. I will be with Sarah McLusky, who is tall and has wavy hair.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 9 July 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

out of context that post reads very funny.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 9 July 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

It is a simple declarative statement. Or two simple declarative statements, rather.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 9 July 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Some girl: "Do you post at ILM?"

Gavin, Saturday, 9 July 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

It is a simple declarative statement. Or two simple declarative statements, rather.

that is why i should not post when i'm overtired. apparently i find simple declarative statements hi-larious!

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 9 July 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Some girl: "Do you post at ILM?"

"Some girl" or "Some Girl"?

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 9 July 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I hope you know what that means. If not, forget it.

Anyway, Gavin, sorry I didn't see you or say hello. As for your reputation: the only thing I know is that you used to write for Stylus. That's all.

The show was pretty incredible, I thought.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 9 July 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to finagle tickets through her people, I'd love to grab a drink there with any ILMers

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 9 July 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

I wish the DJ had spun more. Sped-up Amerie was my shit.

deej.., Saturday, 9 July 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

OIY! OIY! OIY!

*burp*

natedey (ndeyoung), Saturday, 9 July 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

oggi oggi oggi, mate.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 9 July 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the show was hot. Anybody see the drunk girl collapse and take out one of the turntables early on during the DJ set?

Gavin, Saturday, 9 July 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

People were telling me about that, but I missed it!

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 9 July 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

That was pretty hillarious. Great show and the random remix at the end of the night in the booth was fantastic!

temeraire (r h), Saturday, 9 July 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the show was hot. Anybody see the drunk girl collapse and take out one of the turntables early on during the DJ set?

hahaha yeah that was pretty ridiculous. Kinda felt bad for her. Were you near the front? I was at the corner of the "stage."

deej.., Sunday, 10 July 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

I had so much fun. I was surprised how many people showed. We need more grime events in chicago. Serrriously.

deej.., Sunday, 10 July 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

Gavin, I think I was standing next to you - was that you I starting talking about ILX to?

temeraire (r h), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)
