somebody pointed out the single sounds like velvet revolver and i'm afraid they're right. I still want to hear the album cuz, like, they're fucking hot. like, really hot. like, i always said I didn't have a "type" and then they made me realize I do. and they're it.

I actually got to meet them back when they were Ragady Anne in Palo Alto, before they made it big, because a friend of mine put out one of their early 7"'s. They were in high school then! They were completely charming of course.

I thought they were the Electro-cutes before they were the Donnas.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 22 October 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

are they still all the original members from high-school?

yup!

I just heard snippets of a bunch of the new songs at their site. It sounds like a better album than their last one - more Heart-like (70s Heart, not 80s Heart). I might buy it.

I thought they were the Electro-cutes before they were the Donnas.

They were also Ragady Anne for a brief period.

I am really loving this album. Bu†ch W4lker, take a bow. The sound is excellent. And those guitars are shit-hot. But Brett's voice is and will forever be flat as a cracker.

Yeah, her voice is always the weakest element but the lyrics on Spend The Night were among her finest. "Fall Behind Me" seems a step down in that department. I'm definitely excited to hear this though, and your endorsement only encourages that.

TAKE IT OFF

Neanderthal, Thursday, 11 August 2016 23:51 (nine years ago)

hey, whatever happened to the donnas?

As of August 2016, there is no news on the status of a new album. To date, the band's last show was in Sioux City, Iowa on June 15, 2012.

oh :(

it's sort of a layered stunt (sheesh), Friday, 12 August 2016 00:59 (nine years ago)

I could've sworn I'd seen some news item a few years ago that Donna F had become a hired gun songwriter/producer ala Butch Walker, but further research indicates that was a hallucination.

This revive reminded me of my favorite Donnas memory: It was early 2003, and I was coming back to Houston from a weekend trip to Austin. I stopped at the mega Wal Mart in Brenham (the half-rural/half-suburb home of Blue Bell Ice Cream) and for some forgotten reason found myself in the electronics department. This young girl, couldn't have been more than a preteen, was begging her father, this big Toby Kieth-looking dude, to buy her a copy of Spend The Night, which--thanks to Atantic's clout--was on a listening station in the CD aisle. "They're this all-girl band, and they're really cool..." she pleaded. I don't know if she succeeded, but given all the music at that time being marketed to kids her age, all the choices she could've made, to land at the Donnas at this store in this little town was--as she said--just really cool.

xp the drummer got permanent tendonitis and retired, maybe the new drummer just didn't work out

the CD with the 1st album and the early singles remains awesome, great live band too

two weeks pass...

i guess this thread revival is the reason 3 donnas cds arrived today that i had no idea about.

well, that and a few beers of course.

no regrets, as this is fun stuff.

lol

Back in the early 2000s, my roommate (a woman) really liked the Donnas and, as a big Ramones fan, I got into them as well. Most of her friends were these douchey hipster indie guys in her graduate program and one day we were all out drinking and my friend brought up the band, since they were playing a local gig. The guys really got down on the band, all like "yeah, everybody who goes to Donnas shows are fat old pervs." It basically shamed me out of liking them at the time. Maybe I have enough distance from those losers to check them out again.

i cannot deny it i am old(ish), and a bloke.
but i care not re other peoples opinion, this is exactly the kind of band i wish i could go see.
i have exactly the same 'you perv' accusations thrown at me whenever i tell people how much i love girls aloud/kylie/britney etc ..
life is too short to give a shit.
i enjoy their music.
simple as that.

mark e, Thursday, 1 September 2016 18:43 (nine years ago)

Oh yeah, that's how I feel now. There's a long list somewhere of bands that other people successfully shamed me out of liking in the past though. Not sure if I remembered to include the Donnas.
