The Anti-Defamation League, http://www.adl.org/adl.asp ,a major anti-discrimination group in the US, has put out a warning about a record label that is sending out a free CD to
teenagers across America which seemingly advocates white supremacy
ideologies.
It appears that Panzerfaust Records, who labour under the foolish notion that young people will respond to such crap, hopes to promote 'white power' among the teenage market through the distribution of 100,000 free CDs called 'Project Schoolyard USA' . The company has reportedly bought numerous mailing lists of teenagers who have expressed an interest in heavy metal or skateboarding, and 5000 of the CDs, which feature foot-tapping classics like 'White Supremacy', 'Hate Train Rolling' and 'Commie Scum', have already been sent out.
Abraham H. Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League told reporters last week:
"Panzerfaust has intentionally designed its CDs to lure unsuspecting teens
with a free giveaway that has the appearance of being just another free
compilation of cutting edge music. In reality it is a thinly veiled attempt
to attract kids to hateful, racist music and white power bands."
Byron Calvert, one of the charmers behind the record label, was open about his
company's political motives. He told reporters: "Obviously there's a
message behind the music, and the message is one that we're also interested in marketing as well".
Word is Panzerfaust also plans to distribute the CDs at skate parks, gun
shows, flea markets and schools, as well as via their website.

Maybe Non or Death In June should also attempt this direct youth outreach program?

Drew Daniel, Friday, 22 October 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Death In june are nazis?

Robin The Rock, Friday, 22 October 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

NON and DIJ do seem to be reaching the kind of kids that will actually go on to further education. And end up running things.

Well, you might just want to ask some questions before taking any pills those nice young men with the stylish unforms offer you in the old folks home.

Robin, DIJ do the flirty, am-I-or-aren't-I "playing with imagery" kind of thing in relation to Nazism. But at the Non/DIJ show I went to there were kids in SS uniforms doing Nazi salutes and shouting requests, so a significant portion of the fanbase are at least into Nazi dressup (in the cozy safety zone of a goth industrial show, obviously).

I also wish to point out that two of these kids in SS uniforms were wearing flip flops, so they don't exactly ooze menace or even sartorial discipline. But all the same . . .

Drew Daniel, Friday, 22 October 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Im sure DIJ recently played a tour of Israel.

Robin The Rock, Friday, 22 October 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

DIJ and NON are sophisticated and literate, and not particularly bothered about issues of sexuality and (white) ethnicity. But they're also in love with ideas of militarism, elitism and racial nationalism. And, if you read the interviews, they're really pretty upfront about that.

yes, of course, I wasn't saying that Boyd and Douglas are under-theorized about their views; they show great rhetorical sophistication precisely in how they play the game. While there's plenty of elaborations of a generalized philosophy of "strength vs. weakness" which they ARE upfront about, their avoidance of any direct affiliation with an existing Nazi or White Supremacist party while offering canny injokes to the members of their fanbase who are fellow travellers ("This song is dedicated to the Grey Wolves", "I wrote this song at the site of the Anschluss" etc.) is coy and strategic. Your phrase "they are in love with ideas of racial nationalism" hits it on the head; they keep this at the level of "ideas" so as to avoid getting tripped up by committment to a praxis that would break the "are they or aren't they REALLY Nazis" spell. It's a tactic.

What Rice and Pearce are doing simply doesn't belong in the same catagory with white power bands. Maybe some self described neo-nazis do genuinely like their work but that's not incriminating in and of itself; neo-nazis love any and all pop culture content that references the third reich regardless if it is critical or celebratory. You can find vhs copies of cabaret and American History X for sale on the same web sites that sell Skrewdriver cds.
One of my favorite quotes by Boyd Rice is "politics is for people who can't run their own lives." He has made it clear that he's interested in aesthetic fascism. Also Rice has worked with a number of Jews and non-whites and Douglas P. is openly gay.

hey, is that guy from interpol a nazi?

i don't get it, even if it is an ironic fashion statement, why?

reo, Friday, 22 October 2004 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know if it's necessarily ironic and it's not really my thing but I think it's a fashion of dress associated with power, that appears to communicate the concept of power, and that's where the appeal lies.

There's a DIJ thread from a while back that goes into this in greater detail

Has this leaked to soulsook yet? I really want to hear "Hate Train Rolling", I'm hoping it's a Limp Bizkit cover.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Saturday, 23 October 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder what the lyrics would be

(sung to the tune of "She Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain")

"They'll be rollin down to Auschwitz when we rule/
They'll be rollin down to Auschwitz when we rule/
They'll be rollin down to Auschwitz
They'll be rollin down to Auschwitz
They'll be rollin down to Auschwitz when we come/"

Which, funnily enough, is repetitive enough to BE a Limp Bizquick song.
