Coz I saw the video. Seems like B-grade Kylie with B-grade Britney.

Yay I did it!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 23 October 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I do too. But the question was about the album itself. Better than Duff?

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 October 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I definitely like the single better than Duff's faux-britney "why can't you people be satisfied with my cleavage" beats inane post-evanescence cuz its a lot easier to pull of Britney's level of emotion than Amy Lee's. Plus Duff is a dipstick.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 October 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

There should be a period between "Duff's" and "Faux-Britney."

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 October 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems weird that Lohan is doing the sci-fi r/b sex thrust pop thing when that has really seemed to run its course with Britney's forced retirement and all. It doesn't seem like her people have taken the care to translate what made her appealing as a young actress into her music.
Duff actually has a great voice for pop music largely because she sounds young. It's the closest thing to twee meets 60s girl group that one is likley to find in top 40 these days. She also sings a number of decent pop songs with new-wavey rock arrangements on the new record. I prefer the new Duff single "Fly" to everything I've heard sung by Amy Lee since the song doesn't seem overwhelmed by the feigned attempts at grandeur like in Evanescence tracks, which are so consistently hookless and oversung to the point of being easy to forget.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm fine with somebody digging Hillary Duff's "golly jee-wilikers!" shtick (I enjoyed "Our Lips Are Sealed" even if the sisters sounded like they had no clue what the words actually meant), but the idea of "Bring Me To Life" or "My Immortal" being hookless? Crackers.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

even if her voice is too Sarah MacLachlan for ya (which could hinder enjoyment of "My Immortal"), "Bring Me To Life" can't be denied by any Linkin Park fan.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"Bring Me To Life" is the one with the guy yelling in the chorus. I remember. I guess it's going too far to say "hookless" then. But I stand by Duff's "Fly" as something of an improvement on the Evanescance sound. It's smoothed out, concise, and it's got a great bridge. Although I didn't realize that was what she was trying to rip off until you mentioned it up thread.
The new Duff record is way too long and a bit of a drag overall (60 minutes, 17 tracks, too much Hillary for any sane person or evan a ball-tripper such as myself to handle) but "The Getaway" "Hide Away" and the Lohan dis track Donnas-style rocker "Haters" are all fine.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"My Immortal" is hookless. The further away from Lilith/Nu-metal soundclash Evanescence get, the less memorable they become.

haha there's a good chance this won't be a big problem anyway.

xpost: I'm kind of sick of Evanescence.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Why are you people listening to Lindsay and Hillary? Are you all 12 year old girls?

Aja (aja), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

You're one to talk!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

NB I haven't heard LL's music, it just seemed like a funny thing to say.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! I'm 13.

Whatever. My friends are listening to Hillary and it gets on my nerves. I heard "Fly." What's so great about that? I heard the one by Lindsay too. Their both just looking for attention and money.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah. Completely insane.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not insane, it just make the music suck.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I will admit that every Evanescence song I've heard aside from "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal" I have to be in the mood for (they are samey). Those two put me in the mood for them.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Aja, you don't want to be a corny indie fuq forever, do you? EMBRACE THE LOHAN

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Lindsay Lohan, I just don't think she needs to be making albums.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I've made me feelings on Bring Me To Life fairly clear... My Immortal's pretty good, though the album version is better, and I rather like Going Under if only due to Clever Drowning Metaphor in the video. Everybody's Fool is less good... and I forget the other ones, though I rather like Tourniquet. The album's half-decent - not a particularly frequent rotator, but a perfectly acceptable forty-odd minutes, even if it does get a bit "SO I TAKE IT YOU DIDN'T ENJOY SCHOOL VERY MUCH, THEN, AMY" at times.

And My Immortal is all about the video anyway.

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Saturday, 23 October 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it wrong to think that watching the "My Immortal" video on mute in order to voice Amy Lee's internal thought process as 'Mr. Bean' is an acceptable form of entertainment?

Simon H., Sunday, 24 October 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Lindsay Lohan, I just don't think she needs to be making albums.

Aja, totally OTM. She makes a great teen movie star, but as a singer, it just seems forced.

"asia by proxy" is an orwell title right?

(actually proxy could be the name of the great lost prog rock band and "asia" their double-LP concept record about the spice trail)

I like "Fly" and loved "Come Clean". "Rumours" is difficult to remember afterwards, apart from the video clip.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 23 December 2004 05:08 (twenty-one years ago)

apart from the terrible lyrics, i like rumours...every review i read talks about how hard it is to remember but its been stuck in my head all friggin day...i guess i'm just weird......oh and i like when her voice gets all chopped up and manipulated at the end...and that crazy fuzzed out bassline...haha sorry i can't understand what's not to like...

mysterious lurker, Thursday, 23 December 2004 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
The opening track (the one that goes "Cuz you're mine...") on that album is awesome. There are a couple of other good ones, although they always seem to have one thing wrong.

where's that on sale?

N_RQ, Friday, 5 August 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

I have this album! I've not seen it promoted v much in shops though. It's OK, I was totally into 'Rumours' for ages until I heard the Lil Jon remix which swiftly displaced it in my affections. 'Nobody Til You' and 'Speak' are the two best songs other than 'Rumours'.
