Gotta say, for all of "Sweet Child o' Mine"''s wistful romanticism, "Every Word You Say" on Lovers Rock is a thousand times as affecting. Just a thought there.

sorry, was just checking to see if that was a comma or a period between earthlink and net.

This is an entirely legimate thread, I assure you. Need proof? Okay. GOOD CHARLOTTE SUCK, thus YOU SUCK FOR LIKING THEM!

Convinced?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 23 October 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Does this mean that the second album should now be called "Sade-Lovers ROCK!"???

noodle vague (noodle vague), Saturday, 23 October 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

once again, another comparison of albums i love!

frankE (frankE), Saturday, 23 October 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I apologize for this thread.

Alex in NYC (deangulberry), Sunday, 24 October 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

No I fucking don't. Really, stop that shit.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 24 October 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

What?

Alex in NYC (deangulberry), Sunday, 24 October 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i've never heard this sade album, alex. i have heard appetite for destruction obviously, but not so much sade (other than that first one w/ "smooth operator").

i think that there's a demographic disconnect here!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 24 October 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, for some context, Lovers Rock is one of the wife's favorite discs, and I must confess to quite diggin' it too. I mean, it's no Ace of Spades, but it's a fine bit of moody, melodic melancholy. In any event, prompted by all these recent "Taking Sides"'s, I decided that I was devoting so much time to slagging off Appetite.., perhapse I should give it another listen (incidentally, as a cheap plug, I just wrote a chapter about how said album is a sacred cow in need of toppling for a German-only book devoted to rock blasphemy). In any event, for every airing of "Mr.Brownstone" and/or "Paradise City" came an airing of "King of Sorrow" and/or "By Your Side" by the sultry Sade.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 24 October 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

'By Your Side' is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard!

Sade's Romantic Sultriness >>>>>>>>>>>> Axle's Misogynistic Stupidity

'by your side' makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! :-D

gygaxI (diamond), Sunday, 24 October 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuckin' A!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 24 October 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It took me a while to get into it but 'Lovers Rock' is a great great album. Very understated even by her standards.

how did sade miraculously escape alex's disemboweling edict on all soft music?

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Sunday, 24 October 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps because of the orthographic likeness to a certain marquis?

You don't know me that well, amateur!!st. I like soft music, but the stipulation is that it has to be good soft music. I'm not simply the raving cartoon character you think I am.

i don't actually think you are a raving cartoon, i was poking fun at the "character" you so often play, which is a raving cartoon

amateur!!st, Sunday, 24 October 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i should distinguish from now on between alex and "alex"

I assure you, amateur!!st, the opinions I express -- though vociferous at times -- are entirely genuine.

In the last couple of days, however, there's been a rash of posts bearing my name that have not been genuine, and I'm finding it pretty irritating. Having once been the victim of identity theft outside of ILX, it a significant sore spot for me. I thought there were safeguards preventing that here!

haha!

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 24 October 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, alex, dean's been impersonating me too, and while so far it's just been silly, i can see it becoming a real nuisance. i'm with you on that concern.

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Sunday, 24 October 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, I am very sorry to hear about the identity theft, Alex.

Speaking as a pretty damn big Sade fan, Lovers Rock was a major disappointment in my book. But I'd take it over the god awful GnR anyday.

Bimble (bimble), Monday, 25 October 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard that one version of the next G'n'R album was all Sade covers. It was during the week Babyface was in the band. Sade actually showed up for one of the sessions, and Axl was so nervous he spent the whole afternoon in the bathroom pretending to be sick from the Korean take-out he had for lunch. But they knew he was faking, 'cuz Babyface and Buckethead had the bibim bop too and they were fine.

Pickin' Sade.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I posted a thread about "by your side" that was alluded to by an imposter upthread. i have no threads on GnR.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

"king of sorrow" destroys anything that has ever come out of GnR's career
