I really don't know about this one. I love both songs. I just hope Alex won't yell at me again.

When I yell at you, you'll know it!

This is actually a good one, as both represent shamelessly poppy moments from artists not known theretofore to sucking up to the mainstream as much. That said, I fucking HATE "Candy", and "Lips Like Sugar" does have that great Will Sergeant riff, so I go with les hommes du Lepin.

I just love, love, love the spelling - the Bunny Men. No, really!

Otherwise, I'd take "Candy".

Wow! YOU hate "Candy"? Well, when I think about it, I don't think having that girl (can't remember her name) sing on the track was necessary, or very helpful.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 23 October 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate Pierson. Of the B-52's. She's fine ("Shiny Happy People" not withstanding), but it's just a shit song.

HI AJA!
/cliche

My vote goes for Lips Like Sugar. I'm with Alex in putting my hate up for "Candy."

Xii (Xii), Saturday, 23 October 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I forgot she sang on "Shiny Happy People." You have to agree that that's worse than "Candy."

Aja (aja), Saturday, 23 October 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

*still cannot decide whether The Bunny Men would be a more appropriate name for an Echo or an Iggy Pop tribute act*

You have to agree that that's worse than "Candy."

This is true. But, by the same token, what makes "Candy" so painful is that this is the same man who sang "Loose" and "Lust for Life" and "Penetration" and "Nightclubbing" and (etc. etc. etc.). For him to be singing such a banal dollop of pop dung hurt me in my heart.

Dear...Mister...Echo!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 6 November 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

He has one Echo & the Bunnymen cd. I do like them.

I really like "Killing Moon"

Aja (aja), Saturday, 6 November 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Both sucks suck, frankly.

In fairness, Iggy did tons of crappy pop songs before he hit the goldmine with "Candy". How much garbage is on "New Values", "Soldier, "Party", and then the horror that is "Zombie Birdhouse"? Is anyone really going to make the argument that any of that stuff is much better than "Candy"? I'm sure there are plenty of crap tunes he did after that, but can't say I even know the names of any of those records.

dsd, Sunday, 7 November 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That should've read "Both SONGS suck".

Have no idea idea how that came out as "both sucks suck". Guess I'm too drunk right now.

"Run Like A Villain" and "Eat or Be Eaten" on Zombie Birdhouse are a thousand times better than "Candy," which is a fuckin' abomination.
