Certainly better than the other two.

But not really all that great. Basically I just can't get interested by Eminem any more, and 50Cent's "verse" (what is it, four lines long?) isn't particularly spectacular either. This is the true end, methinks, of Eminem's era.

Alright, where do I find it?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 25 October 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

He's run out of things to say, but hey, this is at least pretty rousing and fun. There's nothing wrong with it. I tend to hate Eminem songs where he tries to say something, so my opinion can and should be discounted.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 25 October 2004 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

A lot better than the other two. Is anybody else reminded of the "FLIP! FLIP! FLIP! FLIP!" chant from 'Game Over'? That's my favorite part of this.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 25 October 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That song of his, with the video, I don't mind it. He's not saying anything but he rhymes very well and smoothely and able to move from impersonating one of his older songs into doing a new song with great ease. Just kind of goes through me. Makes watching Vh1 a lot easier.

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 25 October 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

haha Anthony your whole weird "Neil Young sez no artist can ever fall off, they're just GROWING" thing is really starting to get run into the ground.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Eminem is "growing" into sucking major ass.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i like that 'mosh' song's beat. that's about as positive as i'm getting.

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Al, I never said they can't fall off. It's just that I'm tired of critics pulling out the "it's OVER" flag at the drop of a wack single or whatever. You have NO IDEA what will come. None of us do. So why BOTHER trying to be the first do decide somebody's jumped the shark? What do we benefit from it?

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Besides which, this is better than "Business" or sodding "Cleaning Out My Closet".

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I rather like "Cleaning out my closet".

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

COMC is just a weaker version of something he did much better on "The Way I Am".

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not among my favorites but it seems to have obtained an ILM rep of being some sort of watershed of shittiness and I always thought it was much better than say, "Stan".

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Usually ILM rep can be ignored. "Stan", as has been pointed out, labours its punchline to such an awful extent, I can't understand how people can listen to it beyond once or twice. "The Way I Am" is probably his second best single.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

One listen and I like it. Heavy beat, nice flow, i.e. it's Eminem.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked COMC ok but its no Stan.

Anthony I don't think we're just trying to be the first to claim the end, if anything this is more my response to the music - when without me leaked, i couldn't stop listening to it. THe last three songs I haven't had an urge to hear more than once.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

FWIW: Em tracks that I would defend:

Lose Yourself, Business, 8 Mile, Criminal (probably my favorite), Renegade with Jay Z OR Royce, 97 Bonnie and Clyde (the much better 'Kim'), My Dad's Gone Crazy, Kill You, Superman, Square Dance, Without Me, Till I Collaps (probably second favorite), Busa Rhyme with Missy, Dead Wrong with Biggie.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

There are a good number more than that I'd defend...Forgot about Dre, Real Slim Shady, Rock Bottom, Stimulate, Run Rabbit Run, various others i can't think of right now cuz i haven't really thought about eminem in around a year.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

well then you're on another planet then me, cuz I've been like "wtf let's hear that shamelessly schizo I Love The 90s hookfest for the 99th time. Did he actually say 'alright stop, pajama time?' WOAH!"

(x-post) um, so forksclove never liked Em much in the first place. explains a lot, makes more sense.

What exactly did you all WANT from Eminem? More drama 'bout the mama? Horatio Alger stories of young white people making it in a rap context? Horatio Alger 2K? Eye Of The Tiger? what?

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 25 October 2004 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll give you Forgot about Dre (which I forgot about) and Run Rabbit Run; Rock Bottom didn't do much for me... haven't heard Stimulate, what's that off of? Did I delete it sometime back?

Anthony: Um, I liked about fifteen tracks enough to consider them fairly canonical. Not bad for three albums of output. I actually consider myself a considerable fan. I'll probably buy the album when it drops.

What did I want out of him? A crescendo in his growth both lyrically and skillswise, something that most people who have been listening to him over the last few albums feel HAS been in the offing. If I get four or five tracks on the album that meet that expectation, I'll be happy and quit bitching. Promise.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 25 October 2004 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

There are other tracks that I WOULD defend; that's more like my expanded POX.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 25 October 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

What did I want out of him? How about some music that sounds good?

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 25 October 2004 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

There are other tracks that I WOULD defend; that's more like my expanded POX.

gotcha. I'll back off, then.
