Not too shabby, Mr. Ott! (Well, your attempt to link was kinda shabby, but that happens.)
― David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)
Macs...
― Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)
The site looks great! I did like the vinyl-eqsue gloomy black background from before but the overall attractiveness of the site is far better now. Where are the archives? Still to come, I suppose?
― MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)
right now the archives have been pared down to articles on the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols, the Stooges and the Kinks. is this the new direction?
things are still up at the old site

Oooh thanks for linking that. I was meaning to print up the Collins piece and I'd totally zoned. Here's my lunchtime reading.
― Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 1 November 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)
New site looks very nice btw.
― Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 1 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)
i take it michael baker isn't the same fella the PFM lads all know and love..
― chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 1 November 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)
Milton et al, archives are to funnel in. Please read the Editor's Notes in Greatest Hits Vol. 1 - thanks for visiting.
― Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)
The site looks very nice...congrats.
― M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)
Thanks Matt - I should mention it was done by
Yearofthe.com.
― Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)
PSF is one of my all time favorite music websites. I hope the archives can stay up in their old locations until the funnelling is done, they're invaluable.
― (Jon L), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)
When is PSF going to dump that "vinyl anachronist"? This irritating jerk is in every issue, whining about digital sound and imploring us to purchase instead $50 "audiophile" import vinyl tripe ("Aqualung" reissues!), making unsubstantiated and ridiculous claims about the "superiority" of $1000 speaker cables and the like. The Anachronist obviously has no grasp on basic physics, etc.
Isn't there enough of that sort of thing in magazines that cater exclusively to the well-heeled yuppie? (Stereophile, Absolute Sound, etc.)
― Lefty, Tuesday, 2 November 2004 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)
Dang, I like the old look, but whatever.....Vinyl Anachronist is cool...I GUESS I can live with the new look, if I can learn to navigate it.

I hope the archives can stay up in their old locations until the funnelling is done, they're invaluable.― Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)
Yes Dom (et al), we're only replacing the links to material once it's been moved / updated to the new site. E.g.
http://www.furious.com/perfect/can.html will still work until there's a new version on PSF.com.
― Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)
It does look awesome — Ott's inexcusable presence aside.
― Ott Hatah, Friday, 5 November 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)
looks awesome, eh? looks grey and bland. and when ads are popped in there, your eye is gonna be so drawn to them the content will suffer. sorry to be a buzzkill.
― john'n'chicago (john'n'chicago), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)
wait, i just read the ad policy. the ads are gonna be grayscale too? interesting. i take it back. it's just grey and bland then.
― john'n'chicago, Friday, 5 November 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)
You say "grey and bland" — I say "newspaper-esque." In any case, you may be right about the ads, but it looks good for now. Ott adding his overwhelmingly negative vibe to the whole endeavor still knocks it down a few notches, though.

one month passes...
dictating creative is apparently a bad way to build an advertiser base...
― john'n'chicago, Wednesday, 29 December 2004 22:47 (twenty years ago)
Er?
― Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 22:54 (twenty years ago)
It's a shoot, Tony.
― Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 22:56 (twenty years ago)
pahahah -> dom
― I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 December 2004 00:25 (twenty years ago)
"creative" is ad-speak for the actual ad itself, so "dictating creative" means telling advertisers how their ads have to look.

Why did Perfect Sound Forever reprint whole hog the Prince Far I discog from 50 Miles of Elbow Room? It's a great article but it already came out several years ago! Seems like a cheap move to me.
― mcd (mcd), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)
four months pass...
Is it gone? Haven't seen an update since April. Bummer if it is. I'd been enjoying it.
― San Carlos, Sunday, 19 June 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)
one year passes...
And now it's back to be exactly what it was before. How strange.
― Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)
The Ott-era version featured some of the worst web design on the internet, glad it's gone.
― polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)
I don't remember much about it except there was a Shirly Collins interview on it which I did print up and read over lunch and it doesn't appear in the archives.
― Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)
for a man who constantly rails against his favorite acts 'cashing in', 'selling out', etc., he sure knew how to change the best online webzine into an unreadable, unsearchable mess covered with pathetic 'advertise with PSF!' logos fast enough
glad it's over
― milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:57 (nineteen years ago)
Hmm. I thought Perfect Sound Forever was an ama regular back in the day.
― Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 23:32 (nineteen years ago)
The old design has been back for probably a year.
― Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 23:38 (nineteen years ago)
yeah, this changed a while back. how many updates did the redesign actually make it through?
― Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 16 November 2006 00:00 (nineteen years ago)
Man I thought this thread was gonna be about a
new relaunch
― Roque Strew (RoqueStrew), Thursday, 16 November 2006 08:51 (nineteen years ago)
