Are there any other Ted Leo songs as good as "The Ballad of Sin-Eater?"

I know nothing (but I love this song and I really like "Little Dawn" but hated Chisel with a passion and had a big argument with his brother one time years ago)

Search any and all Ted Leo. He is a treasure.

Which brother? Danny from The Holy Childhood? Chris from The Lapse? Was the argument political?
They're all pretty damn left-leaning you know, Roger - and it shows up in songs -- "Treble in Trouble" is about health care, "Abner Louima vs. Governor Pete Wilson" is about police brutality, "The High Party" (which is a masterpiece) is about the war in Iraq... and so on...

Fuck, I love Ted Leo and I look forward to watching him play tomorrow night as the "election" "results" roll in...

i had an argumnet with whoever the guy in...shit, not the Van Pelt...Radio to Saturn, maybe? Or some other hc band, they had a really good 7" once, kinda obscuro I guess. Anyway yeah it was political (abortion). Those were political times.

I wish I could remember the name of that band

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 01:37 (twenty years ago)

Shit, that was going to look real neat; all those covers right next to each other.

I like Chisel more than solo Ted, and I don't think we've ever agreed on anything, but I still think "Timorous Me" is his best song.

NATIVE NOD!! That was the name of the band. I remember they had a 7" that kicked ass when I was, like, 16.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 01:44 (twenty years ago)

Ted Leo could be Christopher Meloni's stunt double

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 01:50 (twenty years ago)

That would have been Chris Leo then, from Native Nod. I'm pretty sure Ted's bassist now was the Native Nod bassist, too...

Roger, you should enjoy all of Hearts Of Oak. Far and away his best IMO.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 02:14 (twenty years ago)

I'll try a POX (although it might not suit your tastes; I love Little Dawn too but Ballad of the Sin Eater isn't one of my alltime favorites):

2nd Ave, 11AM
Dial Up
Biomusicology
Treble In Trouble
Timorous Me
Bridges, Squares
Parallel or Together?
Hearts of Oak
The High Party
You Could Die (Or This Might End)

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 02:18 (twenty years ago)

thanks man!

how can anyone not like Ballad of Sin-Eater, though??

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 02:28 (twenty years ago)

oh, i like it, especially live. the first couple times I saw him do it live, he'd bang a tambourine against his head during the last verse, it was real intense. it just probably wouldn't be in my POX.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 02:51 (twenty years ago)

right on

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 02:53 (twenty years ago)

My list wouldn't look much different from Al's, but I'd have to include "Under the Hedge."

JC-L (JC-L), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 16:11 (twenty years ago)

I gotta add in:

The Crane Takes Flight
The One Who Got Us Out
Better Dead Than Lead
and his cover of the Jam's 'Ghosts'

"tell balgeary, balgury is dead" is one of the best songs of the past 5 years, and is probably TL's best song. TOD and HOO are full of great songs, though. i need to get STT sometime soon. maybe tonight, on my way home from voting. ted would approve of that.

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 18:29 (twenty years ago)

STS is what i mean.

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 18:30 (twenty years ago)

This is only a Ted Leo/Pharmacists POX. If it was a career spanning one, I would have to throw in some Chisel songs, like "The Dog in Me" and "All My Kin."
Anyway:

Walking Through
Treble In Trouble
Come Baby Come
Timorous Me
The High Party
You Always Hate the One You Love
The Great Communicator
Lost on the Way to Load In
Bridges, Squares
The Gold Finch and the Red Oak Tree

POV Covers:
"To Whom You Were Born" (Lungfish)
"Many Rivers to Cross" (Jimmy Cliff)
"I Need a Roof" (Mighty Diamonds)
"Dirty Old Town" (Ewan MacColl)
"Dancing in the Dark" (Bruce Springsteen)

I am seeing Ted Leo tonight in San Diego, and I'm fuckin' psyched.

That's my fav Ted Leo song, so I don't think he has any songs as good as "Ballad of the Sin Eater." It was also my #1 song of 2003 btw.
