little steven's underground garage has made listening to the radio on a sunday night a lot more enjoyable for me.

...curious as to what the ilm massive feel about his show.

I haven't listened a lot, but I've loved what I've heard. I was 14 when 'Never Mind the Bollocks' came out and I'd *never* heard the Pistols on the radio -- until Van Zandt played "God Save the Queen" a couple of years ago.

Classic, despite his (perhaps understandable) tendency to chuck in the odd chunk of early 70's bar band nonsense. I love garage punk, but there's no way you can really keep up with it all, at least not unless you give the greater part of your home over to vinyl and CDs, so the show is a great sampler.

His ranting can be amusing too. All time great moment: "Tonight's Freak of the Week is . . PIER PAOL0 PASOLINI!"

classic. despite a period of jet obsession. i've listened on and off for a couple years with the freak of the week segments, cetain theme shows and good songs keeping my attention

While I'm certainly glad it exists, and you do get to hear a lot of great music on it, his obnoxious retro DJ persona and miscellaneous throwback ads, etc. make the show completely unlistenable for me.

"...his obnoxious retro DJ persona..."

heh.that's one of the things i really like about his show. reminds me of the late sixties/early seventies fm radio days when the djs were able to program what they wanted to play.as well, sometimes they would just go off on these sorta rants.

I agree his old-skool dj persona is amusing. The music's the best thing - it's a lot better than the average "Classic Rock" format, which never touches bands like the Cramps for example. The only bad thing is when he goes into those long histories of the bands' line-ups which go on and on. He usually can't hide the fact that he's reading a script. Overall though, I say classic.

In the scope of current US commercial radio, esp. classic rock, I think that saying this show is anything less than great would be insane.

However, I do not really remember good US commercial radio, so maybe some of you who do could find this show lacking.

I'm just happy to have a few hours of radio that's not completely fucking predictable, no matter what he plays. (and i like alot of what i've heard)

You've just about nailed it. Generally speaking, his show is pretty ho-hum (compared to BBC Radio for example) but in the context of US Commercial radio he's like a fucking GOD!

four months pass...
Classic.

A ton of classic British Invasion stuff tonight....Hollies....Hermits.....Who....etc.

And officially the *first* times i've heard "Pretty Vacant" on American radio.

The show reminds me of the excitement I used to feel as a young kid listening to my beloved classic rock station in Cleveland. (That feeling effectively ENDED upon the 50,000th hearing of "Radar Love.")

So I salute Little Steven and his underground garage.
