Elton John "Peachtree Road"

Either Elton and Bernie pulled a creative renaissance out of their asses or I'm mellowing out and becoming more forgiving in my old age (or both).

Granted, it's not Tumbleweed Connection or anything... but not bad at all.

Good to know. All the song samples on the latest Sunday Times CD-Rom were in a very mellow vein. Are there any more, um, rocking numbers on the LP?

Those samples did at least suggest Elton's in rather better voice than he has been of late. He sounded bluesy and raw, like on some of Honky Chateau.

"Rocking" would be a stretch, but there's some chugging midtempo/boogie pieces that he's been afraid to do since the '70s.

I thought Songs from the West Coast was EJ's renaissance. Still sounds damned fine to me two years later.

Really? This merits investigation. I only ever heard the singles from his last album (and they were pretty good).

God, I love 'Honky Chateau.' I always wished Ray Charles would record "Mellow."
