Mara Carlyle - "The Lovely"

An absolutely gorgeous album IMHO, on Herbert's Accidental Records, produced by Plaid (one of whom Mara is married to, I believe), but only featuring Plaid's signature sound on a few tracks. From gentle banjo-led jazz to quotes on piano from Debussy, the songwriting and singing is crystal-clear and wondrous. Great backing vocals, too.

one of my favorites from last year also.

i like how she steals the end bit from plaid's "manyme" on "alive"

she also does a nice cover of dani siciliano's "walk the line" on her "i blame dido" ep
