He samples/interpolates Martika on "Like Toy Soldiers"!
He steals the chords from Roxette's "Listen to your heart" on "Mockingbird"!
He names one song "Yellow Brick Road", surely an hommage to Elton!
He just made his crappiest album yet!

"Toy Soldiers" is bitterly disappointing. WHAT A GREAT IDEA IT IS, but no! It's crap!

Ha!

So the late eighties are back? He should do a duet on "Opposites Attract" with Lee Underwood.

i think this is pretty great so far... the 'around the world in a day' prediction is fairly accurate.

note to eminem: new drums. just do it.

pretty bad.

I don't what eminem is going for with this album. Em trying to offend his audience is nothing new, but it seems quite deliberate on this on. He acknowledges that he ruins his best beat on "My 1st Single" with a chorus that goes:

This was supposed to be my first single (sound of someone burping)
But i just f*cked that up so
(?Go open the door? ) have fun, let’s mingle (sound of someone burping)
Slap a bitch and smack a ho
This was supposed to be my catchy little jingle (sound of someone taking a sh*t)
That you hear on your radio
But sh*t’s about to hit the shingle (sound of someone taking a sh*t)
Ow ow ow ow ow ow no

It's a little creepy. There are a couple obvious singles - Mockingbird & Encore seem like the strongest possibilities - but the rest is drivel. Eminem talking about nothing, rehashing old beefs and apologizing to people he's offended.

'Like Toy Soldiers' apparently not being as good as the premise sounds?

WORST WEEK EVER PART 487

from your descriptions, it sounds pretty great so far. more poop noises! & more pooping on the perceived expectations of possible hataz!

how many listens do you people give an album that you have tremendous expectations for before you take a big ripe turd on it? personally it takes me at least one listen to figure out what exactly I'm being given (As opposed to what I wanted) before I can start to judge it for itself on repeated listens.

Half a listen and I deleted it. I realized that all the good songs will be singles anyway so I might as well just wait til I hear them on the radio.

adam (adam), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Just Lose It and Mosh are both really pretty bad songs - and as someone who usually only enjoys Eminem in "entertaining single" mode I'm kinda perplexed by how willfully stupid and clumsy these songs (and the ads for the album) are. I can't imagine wanting to listen to a whole record of this "12-year-old boy w/a casio keyboard"-style schtick.

i really think people need to revisit Eminem's earlier glories and put their disappointment in perspective.

The first six songs on the album (that's where I left off) are great. I look forward to listening to the rest of it.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Friday, 5 November 2004 03:36 (twenty years ago)

Starting at track 7, when up comes mom's spaghetti in the subtly named "Puke", things fall apart. Though there are a couple gems in the second half.

Gregory T (tubesocks), Friday, 5 November 2004 03:55 (twenty years ago)

he seems to be vomiting, farting and burping through out the whole album, isn't he? does he think that should be funny?
