Funky House.

Let's talk about Funky House. All over the radio. Probably 90% of the once great Deja Vu's output now. The rest being slow jams. Most big raves across London and outta play Funky/Deep House 4x4 garagey stuff now. I'm feeling alot of it. At first couldn't distinguish it from regular 4x4. It's quite an old skool sound. But. Beats are bouncier and poppier. Much cheaper drums. Heavy reliance on cut up vocals. Lots of amazing remixes of big RnB tunes (see the remix of "Confessions" especially, dreamy & sexy, but sharp and fizzy, not champagne fizzy, more like flying saucer fizzy. Don't know who it's by). Even old skool Skibba style garage MCing over the top on some stations. Well anyway, I read alot of people slagging it off because it's not Dj Target or it's not grimy. Lots of girls who wear Jimmy Choo shoes and Burberry head visors like it. Do you like it? How do you distinguish it from 4x4 garage? Who are the big producers? What are the big tunes? Does everyone call it funky house or is there another name?

I can think of lots of funky house but I haven't clue if it's what you're getting at.

The sort of Funky House I'm thinking of makes me think of guys with ponytails and white trousers.

What your describing sounds quite interesting. Any web streams?

all the funky house i liked was American East Coast i think. i can't think of any British funky house at all from recent years (maybe because of garage?)...

and, importantly, how does it relate to the output of labels like classic (which is very garage-based lately) and music for freaks (which is not so garge-based but very fizzy in its own way)?

seven months pass...
someone is trying to get me to go to see these tomorrow. funky house appears just to be latin house, us garagey stuff but with bigger basslines. it is pretty ubiquitous i think in the uk
