So, New Forms being reissued soon, just over the tenth anniversary -- will anyone care? This is the only Roni Size thread on ILM apparently.
― Mark Rich@rdson, Friday, 28 March 2008 01:37 (seventeen years ago)
In the Mode is better than New Forms IMHO. Less wanky, and truer to the scene at the time.
― chap, Friday, 28 March 2008 01:47 (seventeen years ago)
fuck no. new forms is his best album. fuck being true to the scene. no one cars if an album is true to the scene or not a decade down the line.
im dreading the new remixes of old new forms tracks that are apparently on the new reissue. not to mention how loud it will prob be.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:54 (seventeen years ago)
i like in the mode a lot, but isn't it kinda wanky and crossover? rahzel and zack de la rocha?!
― Jordan, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)
Finding In The Mode "truer to the scene" def. seems weird. New Forms seems very of a piece with mid-90s dnb album lengths actually (right down to being way too long.)
― Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)
Unless you think the scene they were a part of was actually represented Ed Rush or DJ Hype something not Goldie, Photek, 4Hero, etc.
― Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)
New Forms isn't way too long if you just listen to the ace second disc!
― Tim F, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:44 (seventeen years ago)
Pity they didn't release just that then.
― Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)
the first disc has enough great stuff on there too though, to be fair. lets not get all puristy.

To mark it's 10 year anniversary, Roni Size has returned to re-edit New Forms. "The first generation of heads who were there with the rise of Reprazent & Roni Size will be able to reminisce over the last decade with the classics Brown Paper Bag, Share The Fall & Heroes. The generation of those who missed it will be able to appreciate the album with the new coat of armour I have added to the original tracks. I think fans of the original album always appreciated what we did with the technology of the day. This latest version shows what is possible now."
Four brand new tracks will also be included, including the single Don't Hold Back, which manages to not only sound like a perfect bedfellow for the original thirteen tracks on New Forms but is also thoroughly contemporary. Not surprising perhaps, considering the timeless quality that Roni Size/Reprazent captured through the likes of Heroes, Share The Fall and the top 20 single Brown Paper Bag.

Wait is it timeless or dated? I'm confused, Roni! Either way this sounds like a crappy idea.
― Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 22:50 (seventeen years ago)
ugh lame
at least include a remixes disk
― moonship journey to baja, Friday, 28 March 2008 22:56 (seventeen years ago)
oh i see there already is one called "replica". well, they should include that too.
― moonship journey to baja, Friday, 28 March 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)
photek's "brown paper bag" = killer tune
I've never actually heard Replica (other than the Kruder mix which is okay IIRC.) Is it worthwhile?
― Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 23:04 (seventeen years ago)
Why is everyone on of Grooverider's remixes a Jeep Style one? Dude sure loved playing music in jeeps.
― Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 23:05 (seventeen years ago)
I haven't got Replica but the remix of "New Forms" the track is ace. Also I've always wanted to track down the version of "Watching Windows" that was used for the video clip. The original is regulation bad downtempo track on a jungle album, but the remix is up there with "Share The Fall".
It vaguely upsets me to think that so many people would have bought the single-disc version of the album and never have heard "Trust Me", "Change My Life", "Hot Stuff", "Ballet Dance" etc. Those are such amazing compulsive tracks. There's not much I like on the first disc apart from the singles.

"Brown Paper Bag" is hotness

OK, I love Nu Forms, but the best Roni Size is his long Peel Session, recorded live.
― Dr X O'Skeleton, Friday, 22 April 2011 21:15 (fourteen years ago)
nice revive--the other day i was boxing up cds i don't listen to much and at the last minute pulled out new forms and put it in a to-listen-to-soon stack
― call all destroyer, Friday, 22 April 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)
Been listening to New Forms 2 loads recently. Amazing how it starts so strongly, gradually relaxes into a zone and then just sort of gives up near the end.
Is there a thread for albums that do exactly that?
