(i’m fighting an awful urge to get into the plethora of masquerading whiteboys who love[?] yet overanalyze southern hip-hop, as if there can be some significant pleasure gained from parsing the individual offerings of guys like bun b, lil’jon and slim thug; guys whose musical cannon is best dealt with in an encyclical manner, like tv series dvd box sets. . . maybe tomorrow.)

government names doesn't over-analyse. personally, i try to write about a song or a rapper i like or dislike in a purely descriptive style, avoiding over-stated complicated rock-crit essaying and fake gangster posturing in front of my mum's powerbook (which is just as bad as blackface guys, sorry) as much as possible, which is what i see the other great internet writers doing at the moment, ethan & minna, all of government names, prima fassy from spizzazz et al. i think we've got a really good style of writing about rap music that doesn't rely on cliche and established form and is fresh and new. which is bound to attract hate and jealously because we're the big boys now. it's kind of like chino xl when he dissed pac.
not sure what i'm trying to say really but in conclusion, dk smacked it with that post.

scg, done the aggressive reflex thing too. go back to your MOP albums and smash a hand through the wall or something. sorry i didnt write a thesis on grime being/not being hip hop, but its more fun without the bearded scholarly tone in my view. save the 'can actually write' swipes for someone who gives a shit. i actually like government names, that isnt one of the blogs i had in mind with the analysis thing (and i didnt say only whiteboys overanalyse, i said ANYONE - i mean, just read through some of the village voice pazz and jop comments from writers on hip hop, writers of all races are flying up their asscracks - it really is a beautiful free-for-all thing), i just dont necessarily like this slightly patronising attitude that seems to sneer down on XXL or source writers or (implicitly) their readership.
lol@big boys and the chino xl/2pac analogy. im presuming that is the only reaction it was meant to provoke.
