at Tritone, Philadelphia, 10pm

Plain Parade (Maria Tessa's booking company) presents:

American Altitude (alt-country/post-rockish outfit featuring Josh "Hurting" Saltzman on drums)

What an unfortunate acronym.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 6 November 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

(But good luck of course.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 6 November 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Low Skies are great and nice.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 6 November 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

What do you mean by an "unfortunate acronym"? Isn't an acronym an abbreviation using the initials of something? To which were you referring?

Re Low Skies, I'm glad to hear that. I've never heard them before.

The one in the thread subject.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 6 November 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 6 November 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, I see.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 6 November 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It stands for Fags Are Gay. No seriously, it stands for Fancy A Gig? I've seen it used here a few times and I assume it developed from Fancy A Pint (FAP).

Yeah, I don't like the post-punk label either, but it's pretty hard to describe them.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you don't mind me going over your head and posting the show, Maria.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

arrrggh. central pa. so close, yet so far.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i have no problem with bands taking the initiative to promote themselves.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

For the record, I really hate calling my band "alt country" (because it isn't) or "post-rock" (because it isn't that either and there are so many crappy bands now that use that label). But you would, I think, notice the influence of Jim O'Rourke, Neil Young, Hank Williams, The Tennessee Three, and John Fahey.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

personally, i think of you guys as "alt post country rock".

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Sunday, 7 November 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer to call it Progressive Gestalt Country

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 8 November 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to visit philly again. Monk's is the greatest beer bar known to man.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Monday, 8 November 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not familiar with Monk's. Where do they serve it?

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 8 November 2004 05:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It's at 16th and Spruce, Belgium beer.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Monday, 8 November 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, sorry. You said "Beer Bar" not "Beer"

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 8 November 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

monks is good for the belgian varieties. i think its overrated, otherwise.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hurting: you got the advance, right? just double checking.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 8 November 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)
