what's that house song that steals the bassline from Devo's "Mongoloid" called?

I just heard it in London and it freaked me out. It's a different vocal melody, but the bassline is EXACTLY swiped from Devo.

For ILM lovers of electro-house, I must also say that Matthew Herbert's DJ set at Fabric last night was extremely wicked and squelchy.

probably/ most likely:

Layo and Bushwacka - Love Story

unless some other remixer uses that Devo sample on a newer track

It's been difficult to go into a club in 2002 without hearing either "Love Story" or the Bushwacka! remix of "Billie Jean." At this year's WMC in Miami, those tunes were often played several times in one night. But as big as the tunes have become, Layo and Bushwacka! won't see a single penny of profit from them. "Devo got 100 percent of the publishing on 'Love Story,'" says Bushwacka!

"I have a hard time with that," says Layo. "When you put a track together that contains so many different elements, I think you should at least get something for it. It's not like the track is 'Mongoloid' anymore. Maybe someday, when I'm old and gray and someone samples one of my tracks, I'll ask for all of the publishing."

Layo and Bushwacka! may not have made any money from those..

thanks, Martian, that's the ILM-to-the-rescue knowledge I was looking for. Maybe Devo-house could replace Diva-house as a trend. Lesser did a pretty killer Amen-breaks junglist tune with the "Girl U Want" bassline/riff, if I recall . . .

Also: did not mean to imply that Herbert played this song at Fabric, he certainly did not.

Unless I'm mistaken, Layo & Bushwacka sample it directly from the Terre Thaemlitz album of piano Devo covers, "Oh No! It's Rubato!", which is in itself a great album.

I have that album - yes it is very good.

My favourite, cheesy to the max derivation of "Love Story" is a club bootleg which splices it with "Chase The Sun" by Planet Funk. I remember being at a club in Queensland surrounded by drunk and naked and oddly buff med students when it came on and blew everyone away with its impossible cheerfulness. This is a memory I treasure.

Wow, stories about Queensland being repressed and then letting it all out make so much more sense now!

Sadly I think they were from other states. It was a law student slash med student conferences combined function. Us law students were shocked.
