i strongly dislike them. emo indiepop. that song where they just repeat 'got me coming around on the other side' could cause mass suicide if more people knew about it.

My girlfriend loves this band and is always playing it in her car. Consequently, I usually drive.

i like them in small doses, but i wouldn't listen to an album of theirs from start to finish. "uber legitimate" is a neat tune.

They look good on paper - the whole 2-person band organ+drums thing is cool. I personally can't stomach their vocal style.

If you like them, check out The New Pornographers, maybe...

Quasi is the obvious comparison. I read somewhere on ILM that the new Mates of State EP, due out this Tuesday, is very good. It's got a cover of Bowie's "Star Man" apparently.

what i've heard from Volcano, I'm Still Excited, they sound sort of similar too.

I find their music very childlike, especially compared to other indie-pop shtuff, which may explain my taste for it, whereas I am turned off by most indie lala stuff. Team Boo is an excellent kitchen-cleaning-accompaniment album.

I love them. Impressionistic lyrics, bizarre pop song structures, EXCELLENT musicianship (especially when you see them live, they don't miss a beat), and piles of joy, hope and optimism in their vocals. I think they are the exception to the rule that falling in love often turns your songwriting to shit. Marriage seems to have made them even more zealous about music. All of their albums make me *really* happy when I put them on, and each one so far has been a little better than the last one.

I enjoyed the live show but can't quite make it through their records. The New Pornographers suggestion is otm. More rockin' and way less irritating.

will OTM. really dug the show, never listen to the records.

The show was the most depressing thing EVER. How can indie kids listen to this and act like Vanessa Carlton doesn't rock their world?
