Athens' own Dreams So Real put out a really great seven-inch called, I think, "Everywhere Girl" that was total R.E.M. worship with the "pure pop" knob turned up as high as it would go. Everything else I ever heard by them was dispicable, bland "college rock."

See also Athens' Kilkenny Cats, especially, again, the early single "Attractive Figure." The imitation started quite close to home.

There was a band...54/40? Shit, I can't remember. Maybe it wasn't them. the only 54/40 song i remember was "Baby Ran" and that didn't really sound like REM. Ah hell, i'll think of it. And it wasn't The Connells. Wait a minute, none of these are favorites. I should go away. I think I steered clear of anything that smelled like REM that wasn't REM. I have a sixth sense that way.
