Boring

Do you find music BORING. Why is that, is because you've found someting else? Another question, if music what would you do for pleasure? I bet it would be cheaper and less time consuming. What do you think, is music over-rated is there an alternative?

In order of your questions: increasingly yes I do. It won't bring her back. Too early for me to think about things like "pleasure" yet, but whatever it is I expect it would be both cheaper and less time-consuming. Life.

I find a lot of music boring, but only because my stuff is better.

dave q, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Of course music is getting more boring. Life gets more boring the longer you live it. That's why little children are so joyous and old people are so miserable!

Merry Christmas.

"Life gets more boring the longer you live it." - Rubbish.

Exactly the opposite is true, unless you are dull and you believe that energy could ever be lost. I am not finding that music is getting boring, and I don't believe 'life' is an 'alternative' to great, creative music.

Laavanyan, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I meant that "life" was an alternative to 24/7 consumption of music rather than music per se. Since you choose to pick nits.

Read posts properly in future.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, if you take the Cage-ian persective....all sound is music is life. So you deny any, because then you deny all.

The more walls between those definitions you make, the less you are to see the whole.

Okay, there's my deepness for the day. Ack.

Gage-o, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

not denying anything or constructing walls, ergo completely meaningless post.

Can you try to make the effort to read and digest EVERY WORD I SAY as opposed to highlighting selected ones with your cerebral highlighters?

READ. WHAT. I. SAID. AGAIN.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe it's time to turn the computer off, Marcello.

Josh, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't you bloody start and all.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Lighten up, Francis.

You just made the list, Winger.

billy durell, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No I don't find it boring, would be extremely unlikely to. On the other hand I have grown bored with record collecting. If not for music I've no idea what I'd do for pleasure. Take drugs perhaps. Playstation. Commit suicide. etc

electric sound of jim, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Read posts properly in future." - OK point accepted, my apologies.

I think I went a little overboard because I haven't (yet?) reached the point where music seems a bore. I'm still enjoying collecting and listening to records.

Laavanyan, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No offense to anyone's egos (I suppose, including my own), but I believe my answer to the question was not made with an improper reading of someone's statements. I think I was just adding my two cents, about my perspective.

With that said, calm down you over-sensitive fun boy.

Gage-o, Thursday, 20 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think listening to it gets boring as such, but I can be temporarily overloaded/desensitized. Playing music never gets boring.

I've long thought that if I wasn't into music and didn't have to practice all the time, I would play lots and lots of video games.

Hah, I was just about to look for a thread on boring music and it seems you just did it for me. I think some music can be "boring" but still good. The other day on the Mosca thread I started, Matt DC said he was a "boring producer", and I'd agree to some extent, but it's precisely his boringness that makes the subtleties stand out. Similarly, Pig Lib by Stephen Malkmus (which I happen to be listening to now) is kind of boring compared to a lot of Pavement, but that's largely its charm. You can just have it on and it only makes itself noticed when it needs to.
