BREAK ONE BAND UP - REUNITE ANOTHER

Here's how it works. Pick one still active, touring band and DISMANTLE THEM. Then, pluck from the void one band who you -- in your divine wisdom -- you think should reunite, tour and record again. All members must still be alive, though.

I choose to break up: KISS, because for fuck's sake, they're completely embarassing now. I know, I know "Now?" Yes, now. To still soldier on with Tommy Thayer masquerading as Ace Frehley is a new low. They need to stop. Stop touring. Stop merchandising. Stop everything. Just stop. Please.

I choose to reform: COP SHOOT COP, because in these troubled times, I can think of few bands who would act as much-needed catharsis to such a satisfying degree. Yes, I know they now hate each other -- but it's just that sort've interpersonal tension that could fuel new material.

Your turn.

Reunite: Jawbox :: granted they're still kind of together in Burning Airlines it just hasn't been the same. No one made music the way they did when they were around and I still haven't heard anything that compares to this day.

Break up: Dave Mathews Band :: no explanation needed.

BREAK UP: The Rolling Stones. Just 'cause I'm sick of looking at 'em.

REUNITE: Pere Ubu - the classic Tom Herman/Allen Ravenstine edition, which hasn't existed since the '70s. Just 'cause they're all still alive, and how many classic bands can make that claim?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

This is really obvious but Oasis should really go. Bring back The Move, The Beta Band and the five man Pink Floyd line up (performing the best Syd-era stuff plus the whole of "Saucerful of Secrets".

everything, Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

BREAK UP: the Scorpions. Just because the world can live without 'em, and it would free up a space for me to...

REUNITE: Black Flag. The 1984 lineup (Ginn, Rollins, Kira, Bill Stevenson).

pdf (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

And yes, Johnny - you need a reason.

Because Mogwai sees music and then kills it.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I break up Fairport Convention's current incarnation and reunite them in theory with Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, and any other ex-members from their classic late '60s lineup? In theory, of course, 'cos Ms. Denny has passed on.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 11 November 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Jebesus, why should this be so difficult?

Sadly, I've heard that Wild Bill Carter is now a motorcycle messenger to make ends meet, and that his grasp on sanity has only become more tenuous.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 11 November 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)
