Which wish-the-eighties-weren't-over Aussie band had the best early '90s proto-Monster modern rock hit (both made that charts' top ten! I just checked!) which opened with a big driving riff and then kinda got less memorable and clumpy?

As if Monster was some big bench-mark?

oh boo yourself.

apparently "Heaven Sent" was written as a ballad and then in the studio they were like, fuck it, let's rock.

anyway, "Heaven Sent"

I also vote for "Heaven Sent."

Seriously, Antoine, citing how many copies Monster sold is no indication of its arguable quality and influence on that which it preceded. In the same way box office grosses say nothing about the quality of a movie (a point I believe you agreed with me on another thread).

In any event, I'm goin' with INXS on this one.

I was basically making a joke, Alex. I should know better than to do that in front of '80s college rock bands on ILM.

I like "Drums of Heaven" a lot, but "Heaven Sent" was the last INXS song that caught my ear. Eno's on that record, too! Well, maybe not the single, but somewhere on the album, doing, um, something.
