"grooving on an inner plane /

grooving, grooving, back again . . . "

yes it's lovely, I've always loved that whole album- "Slipping You The Midnight Fish", "When I was A Kid" (how great is THAT song?), super good.

Always loved "The Rain" and "It Was the Night" myself. It's certainly Robyn's least favorite album, but what do musicians know? He's said of it, "Fifty Two Stations" was a good song. And "America" was a good song....Probably these two are the only ones I like...they haven't got any sax on them."

Here's Robyn's NPR/Studio 360 appearance: http://www.wnyc.org/studio360/show.html

I'm a fan -- wish he'd done more in this vein.

Listening to "My Wife & My Dead Wife" (version on Gotta Let This Hen Out) right now. God Bless Robyn Hitchcock.

his new album is amazing.

results not typical (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 14 November 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Thus far, I've only heard a few of the songs with Gillian Welch, but they have sounded great -- another good direction for Robyn to go. I think RH has done well with a really wide range of styles and concepts, and is not nearly the one-trick pixie that some take him for.

And Boy Howdy to y'all, too, by the way.

The latest "Spooked" is really good. His songwriting is as consistent as ever. It's a bit mellower than some of his older stuff, is quite folky and the guitar playing is great. Worth buying if you've ever liked him before.
